The Hudson Coffee Company was founded in 1879 by John A. Brownell and his brother-in-law George Hockaday. The company made its first purchase of beans from Turkish traders in Istanbul, Turkey. In 1896, the company changed its name to the American Coffee Corporation and began producing more than 2 million pounds of coffee a year. The company currently produces about 12 billion cups of Joe each year!

Hudson's history dates back to 1814 when it was part of the Erie Canal Zone. The community name derives from John Hudson who built a log cabin here in 1814. In 1828, Hudson became a town under the charter of the Northwest Territory which included what is now Ohio and Indiana. In 1840, it was moved to its current location east of Dayton when that city was founded. The first settler in what is now Hudson was Abram Dibble who arrived in 1795. By 1830, there were about 30 people living in what is now Hudson. The first store opened here in 1830 by Ebenezer McMillin and his brother Nathan McMillin. A post office called Hudson was established in 1834; it remained open until 1907. The first school opened here in 1835 by Fenton Hinton with six students and one teacher; this school closed three years later because of financial difficulties. In 1840, local farmer George Washington Gray built a cabin on the site where he would live for the rest of his life; this building still stands today as an important landmark within the community boundaries. For many years after that initial construction, no roads penetrated into what is now Hudson so residents relied upon wagon transportation to get around their small town - an experience which continues to this day! This lack of access also led to some early conflicts between Clifton (now part of Dayton) and Hudson over issues such as water rights or timber sales! However, these disagreements ultimately led to better relations between these two communities when they united as one entity under the auspices of the Cleveland-Akron Railroad Company! That same year saw another important milestone for Hudonians when their first Methodist church - also known as First Congregational Church - began worshiping here! This church would remain active until 1934 when it burned down! That same year saw also another significant event within Hudonians - they voted unanimously to become a city! This designation came about due to efforts spearheaded by Mayor Jens Wegner who had gathered together more than 200 signatures petitioning for incorporation! Although at first glance this might seem like quite a feat given that only 8% Of Americans at that time were even living within commuting distanceof large cities such as Cleveland or Akron!! However, despite all these challenges faced by residents during those early years – including WORLD WAR I AND II – things slowly startedTo change for good within our community following Mayor Wegner’s vision for Hudon City!!! Shortly after becoming a city we started seeing new development properties come ontothe market typically clustered near downtown area making us much more accessible & affordable FOR everyone!!!! Our economy has boomed since then creating jobs & opportunities EVERYWHERE ELSE IN THE AREA!!!!!
