In fact, some of the earliest cafes in this town were started by two German immigrants who named their business after two different aspects of their cultures: Kaffeehaus meaning “coffee house” and Weinehaus meaning “wine store.” Over time, the Germans began to leave Hudson for other parts of America while the Italians continued to come here. However, the Italian influence can still be seen in many aspects of life here – from the way people dress to how they slice their bread. Some notable Italian-owned businesses include L’Atelier Provençal (originally La Cucina) which serves contemporary French cuisine and espresso drinks made with fresh milk; and Don Giovanni (formerly The Italian Coffee House), which has been serving espresso since 1892. Hudson was founded in 1788 by Royal Hudson and his brothers. The community now stands on the banks of the Cuyahoga River and has a rich history dating back to its early days as a trading post on the Great Lakes. Today, Hudson features an ethnically diverse population that includes many Hispanics and Asians. The town also has a strong cultural identity which reflects its tradition of education, entrepreneurship and civic engagement.

In the late 1800s, Portuguese sailors discovered Java island and started to trade with the locals. They brought back coffee plants and began to roast them on their ships. In 1912, an Italian named Giovanni da Colle bought a farm on Java island and began to grow coffee beans. He connected his farm with a water pipeline so that he could sell his coffee directly to cafes in Italy. In 1951, Swiss businessman Helmut Ohlhaus founded Kopi Gros (Cup of Gold), one of the first espresso bars in Switzerland. At Kopi Gros we enjoyed some of the best quality Ethiopian coffee available at that time – think Ristretto, Montero and Torrontes! In 1984, Swiss entrepreneur Ursula Koller opened her first café called Koffeldorf in Zurich’s old town centre – one of the most important places for caffeine consumption in Switzerland at that time! Kopi Gros continued serving deliciousEthiopian coffee until 2014 when it moved its production facilities from Zürich to Addis Ababa because of global competition; however, our legacy continues through our Café de la Presse where we continue roasting great Ethiopian coffees every day!

The community became a city on May 15, 1825, and was named after Hudson's Bay Company founder John Peter Zenger. It is located in the eastern part of the state on the Mahoning River. The population of Hudson was 909 as of the 2010 census. The racial makeup of Hudson as reported by the US Census were 98% White, 0% Black or African American, and 1% Native American. Hispanic or Latino people made up 2% of all individuals living in Hudson.
