Huber Heights is a small town in central Ohio, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lima-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Huber Heights were families of German descent who arrived from Würzburg, Germany in 1814. They built a log cabin on what is now Main Street and named their settlement after Friedrich Wilhelm Huber, an early settler from Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany. In 1825, John Fenton platted what is now Huber Heights as a village and named it for his father-in-law, George McKnight. The first post office was opened in 1829 and later became known as McKnightville. In 1881, the village had a population of just under 100 people; however, due to increased immigration and economic development over the years it grew rapidly to over 1,000 people by 1910. By 1919Hubertown had emerged as one of the most important commercial areas in the area with several banks and more than 20 businesses including two grocery stores, a bakery & confectionery store (now closed), three hotels/motels (one still open), five churches (four Methodists and one Roman Catholic), two high schools (grades 9-12) and several cultural organizations such as the Musical Instrument Guild of America and Akron Symphony Orchestra among others . By 1969Hubertown had developed into one of the most vibrant communities in central Ohio with an extremely diverse mix of residents drawn from all walks of lifeincluding many whose ancestors had come to Huber Heights long before that time . Todayadvocates continue to work hard to preserve this unique community while providing quality services such as art education for childrenand expanded access to healthy foods through its farmers market
