The first coffee was beans grown on a property called "the Hounds" in Huber Heights, Ohio. The beans were roasted and processed by Erskine Coffee Company. In 1916, the company moved to a new location near the intersection of High Street and Elm Road. The name of the business changed to Erskine Coffee & Tea Company in 1917 due to its founder's death. The company grew rapidly during World War I and produced more than 2 million cups of coffee. In 1925, Erskine Coffee & Tea merged with Dunkin' Donuts Corporation. During the merger, many employees left the company including its president and CEO Julius Erving who later founded Pabst Brewing Corporation.
Huber Heights is a small town in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Youngstown–Warren–Boardman, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to set foot in what is now Huber Heights were French traders who came overland from Canada in 1768 and1769. The area that would become Huber Heights was organized as a village on November 15, 1802 by Jabez Bowen and others who purchased the land from the Erie Company. A post office called Huber Heights was established in 1807, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1907. A store and hotel were built there around 1810-1812. In 1814, John Pemberton founded Copley Township which included much of what is now Huber Heights including present day Huber Heights Village. In 1815-1816 Larkin & Clark built a gristmill on the Scioto River near present day Hubbard Road and they named it after their friend John Pemberton's father-in-law Joshua Clark (1763-1836). The mill continued operation until 1888 when it became an engine factory belonging to Copley Manufacturing Company which continues to operate today as Gritsville Engine Factory LLC. Huber Heights is located in the northwestern part of the United States and lies within the Greater Cleveland metropolitan area. The population was 21,844 at the 2010 census. Huber Heights began as a small farming community in 1853 and quickly became a town because of its location on the fringes of Cleveland. The community contained only two buildings when it was founded and since then, it has undergone multiple expansions and renovations. The first building was an old schoolhouse which served as a local church until 1881. In that year, Huber Heights also gained municipal status and began to develop into a more permanent community with several businesses including a grocery store, post office, doctor’s office, hotel and bath house. In 1905, Huber Heights had its first professional football team which played in the Ohio Professional Football League (OPFL). After being disbanded in 1907 due to lack of support,Huber Heights regained its OPPL status in 1912 before folding again in 1916. In 1928, Huber Heights experienced another expansion when it merged with neighbouring Mayfield Township to form what would become known as Huber Hills Township. This merger saw many new additions such as an amusement park and public library which continue to operate today. In 1935, Huber Heights officially changed its name to Huber Heights after prohibition ended and the community started growing rapidly thanks to various post-prohibition efforts such as an agricultural fairgrounds which were used for livestock shows until 1971 when they closed down due to damage caused by weather conditions. In 1951-1952,Hubertus Kappelhoff built his largest project yet when he purchased 80 acres of land east of town from George Wernick who had been living there since 1922.Kappelhoff plans on creating a large shopping mall called “The Plaza” which will include over 200 stores including Sears Roebuck & Co., Macy’s Inc., JCPenney Co., Ford Motor Company etc.. The mall would feature 4 levels with an underground parking garage capable of holding up to 350 cars each level while also having 10 restaurants including 5 high-end diners along with movie theaters,. With this development came increased traffic congestion around town but ultimately resulted in increased sales for Kappelhoff’s businesses according to him during his later years living thereabouts.. In 1984-1985 following World War IIoccupation by American troops lead by General Douglas MacArthurHubertus Kappelhoff sold all his assets except for his home for $5 million dollars making him one of America's wealthiest men at that time aside from Warren Buffet who owned much larger amounts at that time.. After selling all his assets he died intestate leaving behind millions unpaid creditors . His heirs took over control of Huber Heights Township but have failed so far to make any significant changes other than increasing property taxes despite promises made during their initial ownership .. Today most residents are descendants or friends of Kappelhoff's family members who still live in or visit Hubertus' former home frequently
