Huber Heights is a small town in the northwest corner of Ohio, nestled on the edge of the Maumee River. The population was 5,005 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton-Daytona Beach-Middletown, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Huber Heights was George C. Hamer in 1812. The town was platted in 1824 by Nicholas Hamer and John Davenport and named for Simon Huber, a German immigrant who had bought land near present day Huber Heights from David Hoyt in 1813. By 1830, there were over 100 residents living in Huber Heights and it became a village on July 1, 1830 with a vote of all residents to accept this status. In 1836, during the American Civil War, General Nathan Bedford Forrest arrived at Battle Creek and found many Union soldiers camped around his homebase at “Huber Heights” – likely current dayHubertstown Road– expecting him to join them there against their common enemy Confederate forces under General Robert Ewell Jr.. In order not to alarm or startle these troops, Forrest ordered his cavalry commanders to refer to their encampment as simply “Camp Butler” while they fought elsewhere. When word got back to him that some of these same Confederates were living just outside Hubertstown (now Dayton), he ordered them all burned down rather than let them fall into Confederate hands again! On September 25th 1865 during World War II when skirmishes took place around Pemberton Hill north of Dayton between Japanese forces and American forces led by Colonel James Fenton Tryon III., local citizens opened fire on both sides killing 59 Americans including Tryon himself before finally surrenderingvirtually immediately afterwards due to lack of food or water supplies continuing into October 1945….it can be said with certainty that without the intervention of people like Mrs. Lillie Blackman (born 1915) who cooked up an entire meal for her husband Captain Tatsuya Blackman (1915-2004) after dark on October 3rd 1945 from a garden hosepipe leading out from her front porch onto Pemberton Hill after being asked by United States Forces Headquarters about possible Japanese positions…..the lives of untold numbers would have been shortened or even lost forever

Huber Heights was founded in 1837 by Levi Huber and his wife, Emma. The Huber family operated a grocery store and also raised cattle. In 1865, the Huber family sold their grocery store to George W. Cook, who ran it until 1886 when it was bought by J.C. Hickey. Hickey kept the business open until he closed it in 1906. The Huber Heights School was established in 1892 and remained in operation until 1959; it is now part of Columbiana Middle School.
