Hilliard, Ohio is a town in southwestern Ohio on the Cuyahoga River. The population was 21,724 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. John Denton bought 1/4 mile (0·6 km²) of section 16N (now Delmarva Avenue) from John Ahern for $10 per acre (0·60 ha) in 1814 and donated it tothe township as Pioneer's Row Cemetery. This community supported itself through informal agriculture until 1850 when it became state property under Act No. 7 of1851 which established public school buildings and raised money to fund them with assessments against landowners' real estate values within limits prescribed by law. In 1868, when State Road No 6 extended southward out of Cleveland into Medina County and thus included all or most of what are today Hilliard Township includingDelaware Heights Shopping Center complex on Delaware Avenue), township trustees voted to name their new street after George Washington Carver - President James Ketchum recommended Carver because he felt his work at West Point had prepared him well for government service It wasn't until 1907 that state Route 66 was rerouted through much of Medina County so that running east/west along its path would become more common; this also included parts or all of what are today Hillsville Village and Delaware Heights Shopping Center complexes on Delaware avenue).
