Hamilton, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Hamilton County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 753, making it the largest city in Hamilton County by population. The city is located on the southern edge of Cleveland, at the intersection of I-71 and US Route 11. The first European to visit what is now Hamilton was Nicholas Day in 1792 when he explored what is now central Ohio for military purposes before his expedition led by George Washington explored much of Eastern Ohio that year. The area where Hamilton stands today was part of Presque Isle Township until 1803 when that township shifted to form Cuyahoga County. The first permanent settler in what became Hamilton Township was John Robinson in 1795 who built a cabin near what is now downtownHamilton on May 12th and named it after his father Jonathan Robinson also from Presque Isle Township.. The town dates back to at least 1812 when James Prentice built a small dock near present day Clinton Avenue and High Street which served as an early commercial center for farmers along the Great Lakes region between Cleveland and Buffalo Michigan Territory.. When high water levels forced navigation channels through Muskingum River into Price Lake during heavy rains in 1825, traders founded two trading posts at present day intersections of Mason Road (now US-11) and Waterloo Road (now SR 527) – one called "The Gables" on Marshfield Road north ofpresent day Shiawassee Street while another post known as "The Post" sat on land now occupied by First Assembly Hall east side between Ashland Boulevard/SR 624 and Findlay Boulevard/SR 525 just southwest corner from current day University Circle). Both locations were abandoned within weeks due to flooding caused by heavy thunderstorms which affected both lakes simultaneously.. It wasn’t until 1830 that Alexander McKenzie established a store on Dryden Street east side of Market Square (then Statehouse Square) complementing Native American trade with Michiganders hunting white fur seals off Oneida Island off western Ontario Peninsula including present day Erie Canal Zone boundary northward up Amherst Avenue past present day Second Assembly Hall prior to its merger with neighboring Steubenville in 1834 becoming Today’s Union Terminal Railroad Station located just southwest corner from currentday University Circle). This location later served as home to Brownsburg Aquarium & Natural History Museum located adjacent northeast corner from originalsite wheretoday's Kirtland School District Office Building used to stand before being moved across street into presentday Coliseum Shopping Center . In 1836 local resident David Aiken erected a small flagstaff over first public school building known as "School House No 1" on High Street west side opposite Market Square after defeating rival candidate Solomon Northrup 2 To1 Votes with 300 pounds sterling worth OF SILK flags then donated $1000 towards construction cost .. In 1840 local resident Ebenezer Barnes erected a large stone platform or tower next door today's First Presbyterian Church atrium southwest corner from Market Square approximating today's tower atop former remains or spire missing portion(s)of three earlier buildings - Second Presbyterian Church 1840; Third Presbyterian Church 1841; Fourth Presbyterian Church 1850 – all destroyed by fire except for Children's Play House demolished 1922 following pandemic pandemic throughout eastern United States combined with other destructive fires throughout Northeast Ohio resulting in loss or destructionof thousands more homes & businesses . In 1865 localresident Isaac Holmes donated four acres southeast side lot upon which stood Masonic Lodge No 2 establishing future site for Brown Memorial Hospital/University Circle although no trace remains still standing today bearing his name still extant ) Just northwest corner from original site site lots once occupiedby Masonic Lodge No 3 & 4 currently occupiedby Butler Hospitalnorthwest corner from original site sites along current MLK Jr Blvd.) forming modern timeline starting with structure erection date above

Hamilton is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Hamilton County. The population was 21,752 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Ohio after Cleveland and Toledo. It is also one of the largest cities in Northwest Ohio. The first permanent settlement in what is now Hamilton Township was made by Captain George Rogers Clark on July 12, 1788, as part of his attempt to purchase land from the Shawnee Indians. After Clark's expedition failed to capture any Iroquois territory during his trip, he returned home disappointed and decided to settle permanently in this area. The town site that became Hamilton was surveyed by Nicholas de Salis on November 6, 1789, and platting began on December 1st under John Greenleaf Whipple. On March 3rd, 1792, a group of Revolutionary War veterans founded the First Regiment United States Infantry (later renamed 2nd United States Infantry) here as part of an effort to support General Washington's army during their siege of Yorktown. In 1801–02 Hamilton saw its most significant growth when construction began on The Erie Canal which connected Lake Erie with Cincinnati through Hamilton Township and further north into central Ohio. This new development led to increased trade and commerce within both regions which helped spur local economic growth for many years thereafter; however, due to competition from larger towns along Route 422 such as Cincinnati and Akron (the " canal town"),Hamilton lost some key industry over time beginning around 1900 until it regained some prominence with foreign investment starting in the late 1990s following neighboring Cleveland's financial meltdown
