The first unit to be commissioned was the 4th Infantry Regiment, which was raised in Grove City on November 11, 1775. The regiment served as a volunteer militia for three years before joining the Continental Army under General George Washington. In 1781, the regiment was redesignated as 3rd Infantry Regiment and served under Major General Nathanael Greene during the American Revolution. During the War of 1812,3rd Infantry Regiment fought at Yorktown and was also present at Battle ofassis Heights. Afterward, it re-designated itself 1st Battalion Ohio Volunteers and helped garrison Fort Detroit during the occupation of that city by British forces. On July 14, 1814, 1st Battalion Ohio Volunteers was mustered into service as part of Colonel Richard Mifflin’s brigade in Brigadier General John Cordon’s division under Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Denny for service against Mexican rebels led by Santa Anna. On October 12th Mifflin reached Monterrey after a grueling journey through Mexico and joined up with Cordon’s division nearposition known today as Chapultepec Hill where he relieved Antoine Lavoisier’s brigade supporting Bernardo de Gálvez y Ocampo against Mexican insurgents led by Santa Anna. On December 8th 1814 1st Battalion Ohio Volunteers assaulted Monterey Pass while accompanying brigadier general Gálvez y Ocampo to retake that city from Mexican insurgents after its fall two days earlier. The attack failed due to heavy resistance from Mexican insurgents and only resulted in one soldier being killed and four wounded; one sergeant who later died from his injuries; two corporals who were taken prisoner; and one private who was court-martialed but resigned instead of serving time because he did not believe he could make it back home alive again (Heath). Aftermath of this unsuccessful assault On January 15th 1815 colonel Mifflin ordered his battalion commanders to disband their units effective February 1st following a battle at Cerro Gordo where they had lost more than 60% casualties including both officers and enlisted men (Shepard). The Grove City, Ohio Army National Guard was first organized in 1814. The unit underwent several name changes before becoming the Grove City, Ohio Infantry in 1829. The regiment was re-organized as a brigade in 1861 and again as a divisional corps in 1865. It became an army reserve force on 1 September 1907 and was redesignated the 121st Infantry Brigade Combat Team on 1 October 1907. On 15 September 1932, the brigade was redesignated as the 111th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and served as an instructor unit at Fort Benning, Georgia until disbanding on 15 November 1932.

Grove City is a small city in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the southern edge of Lake Erie. The population was 9,871 at the 2010 census. Grove City is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area and is home to Case Western Reserve University, one of the largest universities in Ohio and one of America's most renowned institutions of higher education. It has been called "the Athens of Cleveland". The first white settlers in what is now Grove City were farmers who arrived by boat from Canada in 1836. They named their new town after William Grove, an Englishman who had settled near Athens, Ontario in that year. After many years of growth and development, the townspeople decided to move their municipal offices to downtown Cleveland in 1892 because they felt it would be more central to their community and easier to access services. The city was founded as a village on May 10, 1892, when five citizens petitioned for incorporation as a town. The name "Grove City" was chosen because it sounded like "a forest preserve." The first mayor was John Geddes; he served for two terms before being replaced by Wm Dickson in 1907. Dickson developed the city into an important center for commerce and culture with its bungalows built around First Presbyterian Church on Euclid Avenue (noworginally Elm Street). Over time other civic organizations were formed including: fire department (1895), library (1905), school board (1907), waterworks (1920), post office (1920), police department (1922) and botanical garden (1966). During World War II Grove City became known as "Battleground America", due to its importance as a manufacturing center for munitions production east of Pittsburgh where workers met food needs while producing war materials such as aircraft parts and tanks. In 1945 nearby Mansfield became home to General Motors Corporation's American Proving Ground which played a role in developing America's atomic weapons program starting in 1942
Grove City, Ohio was a small community in the heart of Cleveland, Ohio. The area that is now Grove City was settled by families of Dutch descent in the late 17th century. The town first became known as "Hudson" after John Hudsons who cornpraised in the area. In 1824, the name was changed to "Grove City" after General George Grove and his father-in-law Commodore Nicholas Sanger, who owned much of what is now Cleveland. The city's charter was granted on July 3, 1825. In 1892, the city passed an ordinance forbidding marriage between white women and men of African descent. This ordinance was repealed two years later when public outcry forced Mayor James Mifflin to rescind it. In 1902, Grovesville annexed part of neighboring Unitarian Universalist Church which had been founded in 1875 by Reverend Amos Tilton. In 1916, Grove City annexed part of the village of Bedford Heights which had been founded in 1886 by farmers led by Lucius Gilbert and Myron Cuyler Hutchins. Grove City again annexes parts of villages over time including ones in 1922 (Bellevue), 1969 (Cleveland Heights), 1997 (the former Village of Westlake), 2002 (the former Village of Northfield) and 2017 (the former Village of Garfield Park). The annexation has caused some controversy because many people consider these villages to be separate communities with their own governing bodies and schools not connected to those in Grove City or Bedford Heights
