From here Admiral Rochefort sponsored numerous navy officers including Commander Arthur Liddle Jr., Commodore Harry Sinkin, Vice Admiral James Wickersham, Rear Admiral Lionel Halsey III and many others who would go on to lead America’s strategic warships throughout World War II. In 1942 Vice Admiral Chester Nimitz transferred from Portsmouth, England where he had been Commanding Officer of Task Force 382 which was responsible for Operation Neptune – carrier operations against Japan off Okinawa Island that led to Japan's unconditional surrender that day! Nimitz later served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during World WarIII before becoming President Eisenhower's Secretary of Defense in 1957. When Kennedy was elected President in November 1960 he appointed Vice Admiral John Felt as Director Of Naval Operations which position held until 1966 when it was eliminated by Executive Order 12682 entitled "Agency Plans And Programs - National Defense". From then until 1979 all naval activity at Naval BaseGreenville took place at Destroyer Squadron 3 (DesRon 3) located adjacent to River Quarry Landing Site 5 where decommissioned vessels were stored while they were being reactivated! This left open the possibility that a gifted vessel could be placed into service again if necessary...and this is exactly what happened! In December 1980 Rear Adm Vernon Walters assumed command of DesRon 3 after its previous commanding officer – Capt Tom Thayer – retired due to ill health! Under Walters' leadership DESRON 3 quickly grew into one of America's most respected destroyers squadron conducting important garrison duty along shoreline communities throughout Northeastern Ohio including Greenville! In 1984Vice Adm Michael Jankowski assumed commandof DESRON 3 after Capt Jeffery Clements successful bid forthe command resulted in his selection over Lt Col Barry McGee!!! As you can see from this long list there has always been an appreciation within our Sailors and Marines for their service!!

Greenville, Ohio is an unincorporated community in Greene County, Ohio, United States. It lies on the Scioto River and is a small town of about 10,000 people. The population was 9,822 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit Greenville were traders from what is now Erie County in Pennsylvania who stopped there in 1797 while traveling down the river. In 1801 the United States government founded Greenville as a trading post on the Scioto River. In 1865 The National Road (later U.S. Route 6) passed through Greenville and linked Cincinnati with Cleveland; traffic increased when railroads were built through central Ohio beginning in the 1870s. The Post Office moved from its original building on Main Street in 1892 to its present location on Wright Boulevard near I-71/I-475 south of downtown later that year after it became an important part of local commerce. In 1937 Greenville merged with neighboring Morenci to form a single municipality by state law under which it continued to operate as an unincorporated community until 1975 when it became one of 112 municipalities consolidated into Columbus, Ohio under federal auspices during that city's annexation process. One major outdoor event taking place in or around Greenville over the years has beenan annual pancake breakfast sponsored by First Baptist Church which started back in 1947 and typically attracts thousands of people over several days culminating with a parade down Wright Boulevard past City Hall before various businesses close their doors for the day to create a perfect citywide pancake breakfast!

Greenville is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Delaware County. The population was 21,549 at the 2010 census, making Greenville one of the most populous cities in Ohio. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Greenville was Nicholas Seiler in 1796. The town was named for George Washington, who had been president of the United States when it was founded on July 4, 1792. In 1802, General James Wilkinson granted 1,000 acres (400 hectares) to Abraham Lincoln for his home-township Pennyfield Township near present day Uniontown Heights. At this time there were only a few hundred people living in what would become Greenville proper; by 1830 its population had increased to 3200 residents and it became an important stop on stagecoach routes from Cincinnati to Toledo and Indianapolis). By 1860, Greenville's population had reached 10,000 and it became an important commercial center with several banks and three cotton mills located along Elm Street between State Route 25 and Market Street. Greenville experienced significant growth during World War II due to its location as a major military airbase RAF Greenville Joint Base which led to production at two local companies that manufactured tanks: Vickers Armstrong Limited and Tucker Tank Manufacturing Company Ltd., both located along Elm Street between State Route 25 and Market Street before they closed down during the war years due to lack of demand from the war effort; however, other industries such as aviation manufacturing soon took over these jobs resulting in a decline in production at RAF Greenville JBA following 1945 as more advanced technologies replaced older types of tanks while less demand existed for them overall across all industries nationally during this period During peacetime until well into the 1960s many businesses operated out of their garage or shed because there wasn't enough space inside larger buildings then; however starting around 1960 large warehouses began popping up throughout downtown areas followed by apartment buildings/condos later becoming common throughout downtown areas especially after Interstate 81 opened up providing easy access to suburbs east of Cleveland through roads like I-271 In 1988 much progress was made when then Mayor Tom Noccia appointed Rick Jones as Chief Operating Officer (COO) effective January 1st1988 after serving as Controller from 1985 thru 1990 under Mayor Norton Simon Jones implemented numerous changes including moving all public services within City Hall including police department operations westward into newly created Government Center which houses City Hall Annexes Meeting Rooms & Conference Rooms Office & Warehouse spaces currently used by Park District administrative offices also included expanding greenmarket operation into additional blocks south side First Avenue west side Court Streets roadway connecting various business districts within Downtown area creating mixed use district completed projects previously known as Riverfront Plaza – formerly Deerpark Place – Federal Plaza - Harrison Square Borough Building - East Side Townhouse Development contributing significantly to continuing economic prosperity today
