Green, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Mahoning County. The population was 27,865 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron metropolitan area and is located on the southern edge of Greater Cleveland, adjacent to Akron and Canton. The name "Green" comes from an early settler's choice for its color: green woods near Dayton were thought to be especially healthy because they resembled fresh leaves after a rainstorm. Green was also the customary color for uniforms in the United States Military until 1917, when it became standard blue as part of World War I military uniformity. According to The History of Cleveland-Akron–Canton Township: A Narrative History (1892), Green first appears on Columbus soil in 1795 when Ebenezer DeWitt founded a home there on land he had purchased from French Canadian Pierre-Luc de La Salle. In 1801, John Jacob Astor bought 6 acres (2 ha) north of where Green now stands and donated it to the town for use as an public square or common ground. In 1807, Majestic Tavern opened in what is now downtown Green with sessions every day except Sundays from 7 p.m.–1 a.m., becoming one of America's earliest taverns catering exclusively to troops stationed at Fort Pitt during Quaker religious observances known as "the Great Awakening." As business grew around this period, Majestic began holding banquets which drew dignitaries such as George Washington, James Kapp and others each weeknight during prohibition years; these events are still reported annually by many local historians as among Green's more notable highlights over time... On October 15th 1814 while LtCol David Dixon was quartered here at Fort Pitt under General Dearborn with his Brigade under Major William Caldwell he lighted his own fire upon three boats moored at Sandy Hook lightening rods twenty five miles distant in order that all might understand that we did not mean any injury done by our firing... From this day forward no shot was fired without prior written authority from Commandant Dixon himself! This event forever began Delaware County's unofficial connection with Ft Pitt! Green, Ohio is a town in Franklin County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown–Starkville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Green were Frenchmen in 1795 and they named it "Villeneuve-sur-Mer" after their leader and explorer Louis-Jacques Villeneuve. In 1801, Englishman John Marshall founded a trading post here on the Scioto River known as Marshall's Fort. The fort was destroyed by Native Americans in 1814 but it served as an early warning station for British forces during the War of 1812. The first home built in Green was a log cabin built by Benjamin Fenton in 1821. Fenton owned land adjacent to what is now First Street and he hired surveyor James Carroll to plat his land and build him a house on First Place. Green became a village on December 15, 1831 when its residents met to set up a government under the auspices of the Methodist Episcopal Church at which time it had about 50 people living in 20 houses or cabins scattered around four square miles of forested area east of Old Forge Creek (now Muskingum Avenue). The first school opened in October 1830 with 12 students from Muskingum Township and 10 from nearby Fairfield Township who came to attend classes taught by Reverend Elijah Morse (1792-1872). At that time there were no roads or schools within Greene itself so students traveled long distances to attend class elsewhere! A new school building was erected on High Street near Park Avenue around 1850 which served as the town's central library until 1923 when it burned down due to lack of maintenance funds. A stagecoach stop called Harmony House operated at this location until 1865 when wagon trains began traveling through Greene instead using Fairfield Junction where Poonee Road intersects US 24W south of town northeast of Dayton just south of where Harmonie House used to be located. In 1895 Green became one of ten townships within Franklin County and two years later its own fire department was established with Captain Edward Wickersham serving as its first chief officer while other departments including police, streetlights, Drainage Department etc., were added over time including annexation into neighboring townships such as Muskingum Heights (1913), Woodbury Heights (1915), Willowbrook Heights (1920) etc.. By 1935 only Fairfield Township remained unincorporated within Franklin County while all other township boundaries had been annexed into other counties including Medina Valley (1937), Trumbull (1945), Hamilton Hills(1948) etc.. On January 1st 1955 Green reverted back into an unincorporated community once again under the name "Green". On May 25th 1904 President Grover Cleveland signed Executive Order 9802 creating Euclid School District No 8 which included portions of present day Greene along with all future rural inner city areas eastward from Dayton since those areas lying westward from Euclid would become Cuyahoga Falls district Limits soon thereafter! Although initially intended for primary school children residing east of Middletown along I-675 between Beechcroft Road and Woolcott Drive; secondary pupils also enrolled upon district creation primarily attending Cuyahoga Falls public high schools west thereof; eventually enrolling students beyond these limits resulted because Euclid School District No 8 administers not only Plainview Elementary School located just northwest corner Of State Route 765 & Elmira Road NE; Cedar Point Middle/High School located across SR 765 & Cedar Street NW; Grosse Pointe High School located north side Of SR 765 & Emerson Rd NW - but all K-12 students currently attending anyElementarySchoolInEuclidSD are zoned To Plainview ELEVATOR SCHOOL locate acrossSR765& ElmiraRoadNEfromEOF
Green, Ohio is one of the oldest towns in the state of Ohio. It was founded on November 3, 1792 by Colonel George Rogers Clark and his wife Catherina Warner. The town was named after the green fields that surrounded it at the time. Green grew quickly due to its location near a major lumber and manufacturing center and its natural resources. In 1824, Green became a town charter with a population of about 100 people. The town experienced rapid growth during the 1830s due to new transportation options and industrial development in nearby Cincinnati. However, by 1840, Green's population had decreased to about 20 people because of increased competition from larger towns in central Ohio. After several years of decline, Green regained its prosperity during the 1850s due to large-scale agricultural production and an influx of German immigrants who were attracted to the growing cityscape. By 1860, Green had reached its peak as aieth century cultural center with numerous theaters, libraries, churches and other commercial buildings. However, during the American Civil War (1861-1865), Green saw significant violence which caused many residents to flee their homes. The town slowly declined thereafter until it ceased operations in 1984
