Green, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the population was 20,541. It is located on the southern fringe of Greater Cincinnati and shares borders with Kentucky to the east and west. Green, Ohio is a small town in the US state of Ohio. It was originally called "Newport", but was changed to its current name in 1811 when it became part of the United States. The town had a population of about 1,000 until the early 21st century and currently has a population of about 60. Green is located on the Miami River, approximately 20 miles (32 kilometers) east of Columbus, Ohio. The town's first settler was John Smith who arrived in 1797 and founded Newport on the Miami River. In 1811, Green become part of the United States and Smith's settlement became Newport Township under territorial jurisdiction. In 1817, James Hennepin built a gristmill near what is now Point Pleasant Park in Newport Township and started grinding corn for export to various markets around America. This mill continued operation until 1907 when it burned down due to an accidental fire that destroyed most of the equipment. Green also began growing apples soon after its founding as there were no other local sources for this type of fruit. The first greenhouses were erected in 1861 by George Jensensen to grow Appleseed crops for use as fertilizer on his farmstead north of Greenville Road. The apple industry grew rapidly during the late 19th century with many commercial growers starting up around Greenville Road and elsewhere near Point Pleasant Park where they dispositioned their crop grown apples for market production purposes rather than simply storing them away for later use orexport shipment."
Green, Ohio was a small town in the Putnam County area of Ohio until the early 1900s. It was named for the "green fields" that surrounded it. The first settler in Green was James A. and his wife Betsy, who arrived in 1814 from Pennsylvania. In 1845, Green had five residents. The townspeople built a log cabin and built their first school in 1846. They also organized a Methodist church in 1851. By 1865, there were twenty-one residents living in Green. Some of these residents raised crops and livestock, while others established businesses around the village center such as a clothier, bakery, store and blacksmith shop. However, by 1870 only nine residents remained in Green; most of its inhabitants had moved to neighboring towns or villages due to low fertility rates and lack of available land nearby (although some chose to remain). In 1881, when Putnam County was created, Green's boundaries were changed with those of nearby Xenia (later Dayton), giving it more autonomy than before which may have contributed to its decline over time; however during prohibition years (1920-1933) local alcohol sales allowed greenesians to maintain some level of social life despite government prohibition
