Girard, Ohio is a small town located in the state of Ohio. The population of Girard was 9,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lima-Crawfordsville-Muncie, OH Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Girard was John Girard and his family who arrived in 1792. The town was named for François Girard, an explorer and cartographer who explored parts of what is now central Ohio during the 18th century. In 1812, General William Hull built a small fort near present day Girard to protect his line of march from Native Americans. The fort served as a trading post until it became abandoned in 1814 when hostilities between America and Great Britain ended. In 1834, James Auld founded the Academy of Science which became one of the leading educational institutions in central Ohio. A year later he married Anna Stephenson and moved to Girard with her. Anna served as president of the academy from 1840 to 1850 and also played an important role in developing business opportunities for Girard residents including starting a school store and becoming involved with civic organizations such as Ladies Auxiliary No. 2 (LAW 2). In 1865, Anna Auld died suddenly after giving birth to her third child; however, she had been working on getting founding members together for what would become known as "the First Ladies" organization that would support women's rights across American society during this time period In 1888 local resident Wm Covington donated land north of present day Main Street for a new high school which would serve as the nucleus around which future community growth would take place In 1906 local resident John Graves donated land south of Main Street for a new hospital which would become home to many branches Of Mercy Health System throughout central Ohio In 1990 local resident Keeney Pyle gifted their home on Elmira Road into public ownership through charters law making it available free to anyone interested therein Preservation efforts began soon thereafter with many events attended by area residents including several auctions featuring pieces from Pyle's collection over time

Girard was founded in 1792 by John Girard, a Revolutionary War veteran and captain of the Loyalist side. After the war, Girard began to build up what would become an important trading post on the Scioto River. He also helped found the town of Tiffin in 1802, and created a public school system in 1807. In 1827, Girard purchased land at present-day downtown Girard for $1,500 and erected a log courthouse. The town's first mayor was also Girard's son John P. Girardi. In 1865, Ohio granted cityhood to Girard, making it one of the first cities in that state to be chartered as such. From 1870 through 1970, Girard participated in various agricultural fairs which drew attention from around the world. The events generated over $11 million for local businesses and organizations over that period. In 1916, Mayor George Wickenheiser dedicated a new library building at Fourth Street and Market Square which continues to serve as the main civic center today. In 1953, then-Mayor Jameson Jarrell announced plans for development of downtown into an open-air shopping mall with features like an amusement park and movie theater; however this plan never came to fruition because of economic conditions during that decade. However, due to its rich cultural heritage – including severalhistoric buildings – downtown still remains one of the most vibrant areas in all of Ohio today!
Girard was founded in 1795 by Peter Girard. It became a city in 1821 and it was made the capital of Ohio in 1836. The city was destroyed by a fire in 1868, but it was rebuilt and it became the largest city in Ohio. The city is now known as Cleveland.
