Coffee has been a part of the Girard community for over 125 years. The first coffee house in the town was opened in 1876 by John G. Girard, who also started the first grocery store in the town. The coffee house became known as "The Coffee House" and served both local and national brands of coffee. In 1951, The Coffee House closed its doors for good and was replaced by The Peet's Coffee Shop which still operates today. In 1975, three residents of Girard decided to start their own business - One Market Coffee Company - and began serving up delicious blends of coffees from all over the world. Today, One Market Coffee Company is one of the oldest active businesses in Girard with more than 20 years of experience! They continue to serve up delicious blends of coffees every day from 6am-10pm!

It was founded by Methodists in 1814. The town was once known for its manufacturing capabilities; it is home to several companies that produce goods such as clocks, televisions, guitars and other electronic devices. However, most of Girard's recent economic development has come from its location close to Cleveland – within walking distance – as well as from its high school and community colleges which offer quality education opportunities for residents. Coffee was first brewed in Africa in the 6th century BC. The Arabs discovered coffee around 1225 AD, and soon began trading with Europe for beans. In 1555, Giovanni da Verrazzano sailed into North America and reported finding land that he named after his patron saint: Santa Clara della Fronte (St. Clair's Hill). This led to Spanish exploration of America which also found new coffee-growing regions such as Brazil, Peru, Chile, Colombia and Ecuador. In 1795 Nicholas-Jacques Conte gave a subscription of one thousand livres (twenty pounds) for a French pressurized water pump to be used at Brienne Barracks on Fort Caroline in London; this became the first commercial coffee mill in England. The Dutch built their first coffee mill at Ypres in 1698; these mills produced three times the amount of coffee that had been grown before. By 1800 brewing machines were being built using vacuum technology which increased productivity tenfold over earlier methods. In 1812 Nicholas-Jacques Conte donated another twenty pounds for a new pressurized water pump to be used at Brienne Barracks on Fort Caroline; this became the second commercial Coffee Mill in England behind those of the Dutch at Ypres! In 1819 John Fenton set up a small shop selling roasting beans off Beaconsfield Road near Marble Arch – his first business venture! From here he started producing ground beans commercially for English consumers under the name 'Sir John Fenton's Coffee'. However, it wasn't until 1840 when British manufacturer Samuel Whitbread set up his famous Whitbread Mills Ltd., making it possible for people all over Great Britain to purchase quality Kopecks from him direct! Today there are more than two hundred thousand cafes across seventy countries serving an estimated 100 billion cups of espresso each year!

The town also boasts two NCAA Division I football teams (the University of Dayton Flyers and The Toledo Rockets) which play their home games at Wright State University's John Linder Stadium on Centennial Parkway in downtown Dayton.
