The Coast Guard has been in Girard, Ohio since 1851. The first service station was built on the current site of the present-day Terminal Station in 1852. From here, volunteer sailors and Marines patrolled the waters to keep watch for smugglers and pirates. In 1916, the Coast Guard moved into its own station on Depot Street, which is still used today as the primary headquarters for the agency. The next year saw the introduction of radar equipment to help with maritime security. In 1958, a new terminal building was built at Terminal Station and became known as “The Channel”. In 1984, a new command center was constructed adjacent to The Channel and is still used today by Coast Guard Headquarters staff. Girard, Ohio is a village in the U.S. state of Ohio and has a population of 581 as of the 2010 census. The village was founded in 1834 by French-Canadian immigrants, and was named for John Girard, an early settler. It became a municipality in 1903. The name "Girard" is also used to refer to the Girardeau River which flows through the community. The Village of Girard was platted on November 10, 1834 by farmers from Quebec withamerican help. On February 24, 1835, Pierre-Simon LaFontaine donated land for a schoolhouse and lot for churches and other public buildings. The first school opened in March 1836 with three students from France. In 1837, the Village had five families and sixty-one residents when it became part of Clinton Township under Township Surveyor George Knoppers’ jurisdiction In 1840, Girard had eight families with seventy-eight residents; however, due to rising costs associated with farming such as inputs like manure and water usage (due to being within two miles of “the headwaters” of the Scioto River), its incorporation into Clinton Township was ruled unconstitutional because it “failed to produce revenue or pay expenses incidental thereto” In 1845-1846 there were many difficulties encountered while trying to get government support while still maintaining control over local affairs by some members including Mayor Charles Gouverneur who faced impeachment proceedings at that time After much effort by many people including Clerk James Murray started on October 12th 1796 after prayers led by Reverend Elijah Howe – then Parish Priest at St Johns Roman Catholic Church located on what is now First Street between Third Avenue North & Fourth Avenue South - this new platform allowed all citizens able read & write - without having their children carry them around

Girard was founded in 1792 by General Israel Putnam and his wife, Rachel. Girard became a state town in 1817 and was named for George Washington. The town experienced great growth during the 19th century due to its location on the Ohio River. In 1870, Girard had a population of 7,500 people. By 1920, Girard's population had increased to over 100,000 people. During the 20th century, Girard benefited from several manufacturing plants that were established in the town. These companies included American Canals (1910s-1960s), Ford Motor Company (1920s-1970s), and Raytheon Missile Systems (1960s-1970s). The town has also been known for its agricultural production. This includes crops such as corn, soybeans, potatoes, apples, etc., as well as hay and straw production. In addition to these crops, Girard is also home to several wineries including Pinot Noir producer La Fronda Vineyards and Chardonnay producer La Ronde Vineyards.
