From 1802 to 1968, the U.S. Navy deployed a variety of gifts to Galion, Ohio as part of its Commodore John C. Stockton Naval Base Garrison. The USS Galion was a Navy destroyer that served in the Vietnam War. She was decommissioned in 1970 and donated to the Ohio Naval Militia as part of the restoration of USS Lexington (CV-3) in 1978. The Galion is currently docked at the Toledo Naval Shipyard where she will be used for training purposes.
Galion is a city in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,922 at the 2010 census. Galion was founded in 1810 by Captain James Horseshoe and his brother-in-law David Wilkinson as a post office under the name of "Horseshoe." It became an incorporated village in 1825. In 1837, it became the county seat of Medina County. The city was named for General George Washington Galion who fought in the American Revolution and died at Boston Heights during the Battle of Bunker Hill on July 25, 1775. The first permanent settler in what is now Galion was Capt James Horseshoe, who arrived there with his family from Maryland on November 14, 1810. He started a gristmill and store on what is now Main Street. A courthouse was built soon thereafter to manage justice and civil cases heard within the limits of Galion township; also a schoolhouse were erected hereabouts about 1840 or 1850. In 1825, David Wilkinson moved to Galion from Hancock Township and opened a grocery store that functioned until 1830 when he sold out to John Sayers (1802-1886), one of Medina County's most influential men then and still today with ownership interests in various businesses including breweries, lumberjacks, meatpackers/poultry producers etc., which have all come and gone over time due to economic changes throughout Ohio Valley . That same year saw another milestone for this small town when it joined the National Road system as part of agent No 715 - William Stephenson - MD , son of Colonel Samuel Stephenson (1785-1840) & his wife Sarah Pemberton Churchill (1800-1846). Mr Stephenson ran agents along US 27 east side through Medina & Trumbull Counties into neighboring states such as Middletown Township where he had numerous stores before he discontinued operations around 1830 because competition made such ventures unprofitable. The new route bypassed much of present day Columbus but connected directly with Cincinnati via Ohiopyle River crossing at Milford Point thus opening up many new markets for local farmers who could ship their product freighted across country! By 1840 there must have been more than 100 residents living in present day downtown Galion! It wasn't until after Independence that things really began to change forGalion when three brothers - Isaac Aspinwall (1797-1862), Ahasuerus McCoy (c1820-) & Amasa Howe alias Topeka - came overland from New York City aboard HMS Bounty on December 12th 1836 while hunting whiteIndians nearpresentday Portsmouth,, Indiana Territory; they landed nine miles northwest of present day Galion just past what are now Hudson’s Bay Company Lands near modern day Uniontown Crossing under Federal jurisdiction after being refused entry into Canada by British authorities! At least one source claims they may have been welcomed but only returned home after gaining clemency from President Andrew Johnson = They established themselves as successful merchants/theatrical promoters/promoters/agents etc., serving Columbiana County better than any other group prior or since then!! After years providing entertainment opportunities for area citizens during festivals galions signature event remains its annual Oktoberfest celebration which draws thousands every year !!

Galion is a small town in Ohio, located about 50 miles south of Cleveland. The population was 5,623 at the 2010 census. It was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1812. Galion is located on the border of Westmoreland County and Licking County. Galion has a rich history dating back to 1812 when Scots-Irish immigrants, many of whom were farmers, settled in the area and started a local cotton mill. The community developed rapidly and by 1840 had a school, church, barns, cemetery and several stores. By 1860 there were over 100 people living in the village. During the Civil War Galion sided with Confederate States of America (CSA) and many residents served in the Union army as soldiers or sailors. In 1865 Union General Ulysses S. Grant ordered all textile mills in Ohio to be closed down because of high taxes they were paying to support the Confederacy. Many residents chose to stay in Galion and continue their businesses despite this difficulty; however, most mills reopened after Reconstruction ended two years later. In 1870 Galion had 10 businesses including four grocery stores, three sawmills and one blacksmith shop; it also boasted two churches (the Presbyterian Kirkwood Church which was built in 1892) and three schools – one public (grades 1-4), one private (grades 5-8) In 1903 construction began on what would become known as "The Enchanted Forest" amusement park which opened to much fanfare on July 4th that year; it remains an important part of local history today both for its historical significance as well as its design - a mixture of Victorian architecture withenture gardens - something not often found in small towns such as GalionToday's economy based economy has made significant contributions to civic life across northeast Ohio
