In 1810, Ohio was part of the Northwest Territory. The territory was created by the United States from Michigan and Indiana. It stretched from the Great Lakes to Texas. When Ohio became a state in 1911, it included what is now Galion Township in Preble County. The township was formed out of parts of Defiance Township, Athens Township, and Xenia Township. In 1821, Galion had a population of 203. By 1830, the population had grown to 614 and by 1840 it had reached 1,057. The first store in Galion opened in 1827 on Capitol Street. At that time there were only two residences in the township- one known as “the White House” and another called “the Blacksmith Shop” which later became the Post Office building on Elmwood Drive today. The first school in Galion opened in 1829 at what is now First Presbyterian Church on High Street near where East Main Street crosses US Route 12 today. The school taught children up to grade ten with a small room for students to sit around a fire or read books while others played outside. There were also three classes per day for girls and four classes per day for boys when Galion started having schools more than one year old back in1830! The first doctor practicing medicine in Ohio came toGalion when Dr John Sutherlin arrived from Vermont during James Kapp's governorship (1828-29). He set up his practice at 401 State St., just east of present day First Lutheran Church off High Street before moving westward along High Street into present day Xenia Township about 1850 or earlier according to some sources; however he did not establish an office here until after 1800 due to its remote location compared to other townships within Preble County then hosting over 2,000 residents including many physicians who traveled throughout Ohio providing medical care without setting up shop ashore!

Galion is a small town in Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It was founded by George Washington and his forces during the American Revolution. Galeon is located in the central part of Columbiana County on the Scioto River. The first settler in Galeon Township was John Armstrong who arrived in 1792. He built a log cabin on what is now State Road 17 and named it "Armstrong's Landing." A second settler, James Cook, came to Galeon in 1802 and erected a cabin on what is now State Road 5. Cook also named his land "Cook's Landing." In 1812, Captain David Hensley of the Ulysses S. Grant expedition established himself at Cook's Landing with his family and six others including Hensley's son Hugh (later Governor of Ohio). Captain Hensley had come overland from Kentucky via Westville and found that water supplies were limited in this area so he set out to find a Cache River tributary which could supply him with water similar to that available near Westville. After traveling for many days he discovered the Scioto River and made his way upstream until he reached what is now Galeon Township on October 9, 1812 – one day after General Andrew Jackson’s invasion of Tennessee into Kentucky! When news of this event reached Pittsburgh they ordered their men not to let themselves be seen among the invaders since they knew Jackson would soon be attacking! In fact, when General Steedman learned about Jackson’s raid he quickly withdrew all his troops back across Tennessee lines! This event helped solidify relationships between Pittsburgh & Cincinnati! Captain Hensley continued living at Cook's Landing until 1830 when he sold rights to the farmstead to Major Samuel Chase who renamed it "Chase's Landing". The landing later became known as "Galion" after George Washington who had given it its name during the American Revolution. President James Kahl appointed Alexander Hamilton as Surveyor for Columbiana County on November 28th,, 1800; Galeon Township was laid out within ten days subsequent appointment from surveys taken by Hamilton. From 1800-1801 approximately 2 miles (3 km) east of present day Main Street along White Oak Creek lay Galesburg Township unincorporated territory under control of then Kentuckian Colonel Robert Morris but included most or all of present day Galeon township except for parts south side along creek bottoms swampy bottomed areas drained year round by creeks only ebb & flow creating marshes nearly bank high salt marshes some 10 rods wide open water 3 feet deep well drained 3 years ago no whiteoak creek has any effect upon ground level surface
Galion was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Galion, a Revolutionary War veteran. The town was named for him because he donated land to the community. It quickly became a center of trade and commerce, with a population of around 100 people in 1800. In 1814, Galion was annexed by Cleveland.
