Pease with the help of his brother-in-law, General Halleck. The regiment fought in the American Civil War from 1861 to 1865 under Generals Ulysses S. Grant, Robert E. Lee and James Fenton Shafter. After the war, the regiment disbanded on June 6th, 1865.
Galion, Ohio is a small town located in the commonwealth of Ohio. It was founded in 1824 by John Galion and his wife Sarah. The population of Galion peaked at 3,000 in 1940, but has since shrunk to 1,500 residents. Galion is a small unincorporated community situated on the east bank of the Muskingum River. The first settlers in what is now Galion were farmers living near Akron. John Galion arrived from Ireland in 1824 and started a farm on the east side of Muskingum River. He named his farm after his father-in-law, George Washington Carver, who had settled in nearby Delaware Township some years earlier. In 1840, whenGalion's farm numbered only ten acres, he sold it to Captain James Ladd for $1 per acre. Captain James Ladd operated a ferry service across the river from his home on Riverside Drive until about 1857 when he built a grist mill downstream and renamed it Gales Ferry Landing. The mill continued operations until 1903 when it was destroyed by fire. In 1827 Samuel Morse moved from Danville to start his own grocery store at Gales Ferry Landing which became one of the largest stores west of Cincinnati . By 1830 there were over seventy grocery stores operating throughout central Ohio . By 1840 There were about 300 people living in what is now Galion Township with just three churches and no school! What growth there was came as a result of two things: First slavery brought new slaves into the area; second localendered resources such as coal and lumber created demand for goods produced within commuting distance by slaveowners along with non-slaveowners who could not afford these products or services locally. A post office was established at Gales Ferry Landing on March 2, 1830; however due to lack of population growth it remained inactive for several years until February 8th 1861 when Jno A Purdy (a resident) applied for its recognition under Act No 7883 “An act providing for erection of posts office buildings” with Commissioner David Silliman receiving an endorsement from President Abraham Lincoln On April 15th 1861 Purdy received another endorsement from Secretary Salmon P Wampler that same day designation as Postmaster General giving him jurisdiction over all US Postal Service facilities within fifty miles including those located inside Indian Territory! This provides us additional evidence that postal service was mandated by both federal government entities during this time period especially given this location close proximity to both Indian Territory Headquarters as well as other Ulysses S Grant Administration Executive Branch Offices!!!!!! galions

Galion, Ohio is a small town in Morrow County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was founded by Daniel Galion and his wife Rebecca in 1811 as a trading post on the Great Miami River. In 1813, it became a county seat and remained so until 1903. The name "Galion" comes from an early settler named Gabriel who arrived in 1795 and built a cabin here. The first school in Galion was opened in 1818 by Mrs. John Gibson with five students. A log cabin served as the school house for many years before being replaced by a more substantial structure in 1828. The present building was completed in 1903 and has been used ever since as the town hall. The village of Galion began to form around Galion courthouse in 1902 when severalHattersville farmers refused to pay taxes on their land within galion's borders because they thought that the new courthouse would be located closer to them instead of inside their own village limits
Galion was founded in 1792 by Rear Admiral George Rogers. The town was named after General James Galbraith, who fought in the French and Indian War. In 1801, the United States Congress added Ohio to the Union as a state. The first post office was established in Galion in 1802. In 1824, the Township of Galion was organized from portions of Scioto County and in 1827, the Township of Monmouth was organized from parts of Wayne County. In 1830, part of Scioto County became Ross County and in 1836, all but one township were divided into Muskingum and Trumbull Counties. By 1840, there were 14 townships with a population over 1,000 people. In 1861-1863, during the American Civil War, Galion served as an important military center for General Ulysses S. Grant's army. The town supplied food for soldiers on both sides of the war and also built several artillery pieces for Grant's forces. After the war ended, most of Galion's residents moved away or died from natural causes such as disease or famine. However, a few people remained until their deaths in 1870-1874; these included Judge John Atherton who served as mayor from 1865 to 1870; Drury Hinton who ran for office many times but never won; Asa Dixon who served as speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1870 to 1871; Samuel Jorgenson who served as Mayor from 1872 to 1880; Judge Augustus Weems who represented Muskingum County on the bench from 1880 to 1888; Daniel Webster Jones who represented Adams County on the bench from 1888 to 1890; John Prentice Martin Jr., Congressman (1890-1901)
