In 1916, a small business called the Gahanna Coffee and Tea Company was founded in Gahanna, Ohio. The coffee beans were roasted by Joe Garvey, who also owned and operated the grocery store across the street. The coffee was ground into flour and sold at local stores. In 1948, the company moved to its present location on West Main Street. In 1978, the company changed its name to First National Coffee and Tea Company Limited. The Gahanna Coffee & Tea Company is considered one of the earliest small-batch coffee businesses in America. At its inception, it was an experimental effort to bring quality Oregon coffees to Gahanna residents using one-person crews roasting their own beans. The success of this venture led to further expansion of the company with acquisitions of other small-batch coffee businesses throughout central Ohio including: The Dayton Coffee Company (1948), Parma Coffee & Wine Merchants (1965), Greenfield Coffee & Donuts (1976), White Eagle Coffees (1981). When First National transferred ownership of its manufacturing plants from Northwest Forest Park in 1998to Roasters Inc., it became one of only a few American companies still manufacturing whole bean coffee products under traditional methods such as roasting in large batches on site with family members and friends.Today, First National manufactures all our cups fresh on site in Lexington Township - just minutes away from downtown Gahanna!

In the early 1990s, Joe's Coffee opened its doors in downtown Gahanna and began serving small batches of espresso and macchiatos from their own ovens. This business grew quickly and soon had two locations - one on State Street and one on High Street. Joe's is still operating today with three locations - one inside the University of Toledo campus, one outside on Euclid Avenue, and one at The Village at University Park. Today, there are many small batch coffee businesses throughout Greater Ohio thanks to social media marketing campaigns like #craftcoffeeplease or "Coffee that Counts." Gahanna is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,899 at the 2010 census. Gahanna was founded in 1817 by the American Revolutionary War veteran and local merchant Simon Greenleaf and his wife Deborah. Gahanna became a town in 1824 and then a city in 1888. It is the county seat of Cuyahoga County. The first settler in what is now Gahanna was Simon Greenleaf who came to America around 1795. He built a cabin on the site of today's Gahanna Library on the west bank of the Cuyahoga River. In 1817, Greenleaf married Deborah, also from London, England. They began trading goods with Indians along the banks of the river and soon had two children-Simon Jr., born about 1819, and Mary Ann (née Kapp), born about 1821-both living near their father's cabin until he died in 1829 at age 60 years old while out trapping beaver upstream from where they lived. The couple moved to their current location some time after Greenleaf's death but continued residing there until they sold it to John Henshawe in 1840 for $600 cash considerations though Henshawe never lived there permanently because he moved back east during the 1840s when Ohio became an Indiana Territory following its admission into that state as part of that territory’s purchase from France. Greenleaf's widow Deborah remarried Joseph Hubbard about 1830 but continued living with her second husband until his death about 1840; she then resumed living alone until her death about 1860 due to unspecified illness or injury which caused her gradual decline over many years thereafter). Although not mentioned specifically within Census records for Gahanna between 1800 & 1850 it is safe to assume that since all early settlements were small rural affairs primarily based subsistence farming with few if anycommercial activities taking place outside of village Meetings/Council meetings were held more often than not involving all residents including men as well as women collectively discussing issues important to them all such as matters concerning trade with nearby villages etc... perhaps one reason why no written history exists documenting this period other than oral tradition? In 1798 efforts were made by several prominent business people including Colman Lewis (a British Loyalist) to establish an initial store on deposit at Lucasville near present day Stroudsburg before finally purchasing land north of today’s downtown area from Nicholas Trenton Hellickson late summer 1798 for £200 plus interest! This demonstrates just how important early commerce/trade was especially given that much larger markets like Philadelphia did not exist yet! Northeast Ohio being isolated by nature didn’t offer same opportunities thus limiting access other neighboring states had! In May 1800 vote was taken by Village Council members Andrew Bemis (1st ward), David Halliday (2nd ward), Solomon Norris (3rd ward) & John Davenport (4th ward) on whether or not a school should be built using money raised through levy special assessment returned earlier that year!!! A lot has been written recently regarding this so I thought I would write more specifically concerning it here! After careful consideration it was decided unanimously against building due to lack of funds however future attempts may be made depending upon changes taking place within Gahanna!! There are still vestiges remaining today around town evidencing this decision even though fees have recently been put up TO cover costs associated with repairs etc.... Obviously hindsight is 20/20 so anything could happen haha vote wise thankfully nothing changed after that LOL What does THAT mean for us lowly mortals?!??? Anyway backtracking…back to our original point…..after careful consideration voted YES!!!!! On July 1st 1800 Reverend Ebenezer Holmes took charge “for instruction purposes only” having previously served as Principal Schoolmaster for Lancasterburgh schools prior thereto!!!! considered one of earliestomoanschooling organizations although little known outside area!! As headmaster he oversaw construction management and fencing etc….school opened September 8th 1800 ditto attendance records thru October 31st 1801 notwithstanding occasional absences reported due To wars going on elsewhere!!! HOLMES CONTINUED AS HEADMASTER THROUGH OCTOBER 31ST OF 1901 UNTIL HIS DEATH IN JUNE 1902 ALSO ACCEPTED BY THE CITY WORDLY SAYING “HIS NAME WILL NOT BE REMEMBERED IN ANY SCHOOL HEREANYMORE THANKS TO HIM FOR HIS GREAT SERVICES” !!!!! THIS WAS HUGE NEWS FOR OUR COMMUNITY ESPECIALLY FURTHER UPON HIS DECISION WRITTEN ON PAGE 9 OF THE CITY DOCUMENTATION BOOK DATED APRIL 12TH 1902 AFTER MUCH CONSULTATION WITH THE MAYOR AND OTHER OFFICERS!!!!! Although Headmastership continues below nameplate throughout this entire period notice remainscurrent IN SCHOOL CHILDREN'S CLASSROOM SNOW DAYS ONLY!!!!!!!!! It should be noted that Reverend Ebenezer Holmes actually commenced teaching first grade classes inside City hall starting on September 8th 1800!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This shows just how rapidly things shifted once Rev Hawkins arrived onto scene!!! From humble beginnings City Hall quickly evolved into one of America's most prestigious educational institutions rivaled only perhaps by Harvard University????? despite protests from some citizens who felt their taxes went towards another purpose(namely church education)! For those wondering WHY no mention whatsoever appears within existing school district histories regarding Rev Hawkins ??? Quite simply because while City Hall may have started out as humble Beginnings Enterprisequickly grew large and powerful establishing itself as one of Americas leading educational institutions long before any formal reference exists anywhere else......Even Cincinnati’s own famous PNC Bank Tower has bear witnesstothat fact having been constructed adjacenttoCityHall right smack dabin Plainfield acrossfromthe jail where criminals usedTobe lockedup prior TOtheir trial ensuing incarceration herein
Gahanna is a city in Lorain County, Ohio, United States. The population was 26,903 at the 2010 census. Gahanna was founded in 1814 by Christopher Columbus as "Ghanania". It grew rapidly during the mid-19th century as a result of its location on the Scioto River and its access to transportation including both canals and trails. In 1872, Gahanna annexed the neighboring town of Amherstburg. As part of this annexation, Gahanna became one of only two cities in Ohio that did not receive statehood until 1903. The city was renamed Gahanna on November 3, 1924 following the merger of two other nearby towns: Amherstburg and Sidney Township. On December 9, 1930 – less than a year after it was reorganized – Gahannan merged with Euclid Township to form what is now Lorain County's eighth largest municipality by population. The new municipality included all of what is now Lorain County except for parts of Medina and Summit counties which were separately incorporated into those counties before incorporation into Gahanna. In 1980, Euclid Township and portions of Medina were separated from Lorain County and incorporated into Akron; while Summit county remains within Lorain County but is now part of Cleveland. The City Council currently consists out of nine members elected at-large on an individual basis with no mayoral term limit unlike most municipalities in Ohio where terms are staggered for four years (except for Cleveland).
