Gahanna, Ohio (population: 25,000) is a city in central Ohio. The population was reported as 27,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Trumbull County. Gahanna is located on the southern edge of Greater Cleveland metropolitan area and is part of the larger Cleveland-Akron-Canton Combined Statistical Area with a total population of more than 5 million people. The first Europeans to visit what is now Gahanna were Frenchmen under La Salle in 1679 and Spanish soldiers in 1701. The town site was chosen by surveyors from Trumbull County in 1814 because it lay within easy reach of both Cincinnati and Toledo. In 1825, John Denny founded the town of Delaware on land that he had purchased from the government for $5 per acre (1¢ per pound). Denny named his new settlement after General Anthony Wayne, who had led American forces against British forces during the War for Independence. In 1832, Gahanna became one of twelve townships in Trumbull County when it was created from parts of Lucas County. The township boundaries were modified several times over the years until they included all or most of today's Trumbull and Clermont counties; however, Gahanna never reached its current size. On July 1, 1907, Gahanna voters passed an ordinance establishing limits on real estate speculation which remain in effect to this day. At that time there were only 6 homes sales every day and only 20 buyers represented every block! During prohibition many businesses closed their doors due to state laws preventing alcohol sales without a license; however, many residents still managed to get their hands on some alcohol which they then consumed at home or at local bars or stores open late into the night. This period also saw some high-profile arrests such as Thatcher's husband Denis Healey being caught with Boulevard Rum while driving through Gahanna; however public opinion quickly shifted against prohibition once news spread about how harmful this Prohibition style drinking could be for both individuals and society as a whole! Healey's arrest provided much needed publicity for Prohibition efforts as well as teaching citizens about illegal alcohol sales which helped rally support for repeal weeks later when Congress finally passed legislation repealing prohibition nationwide! After repeal many businesses reopened but alcoholism continued to be a problem so much so that even though liquor licenses began becoming available again throughout Ohio starting in 1933 Liquor Control Board regulations reverted back to those used prior to prohibition! As recently as 1990s Gahanna still experienced high levels cf prostitution although crime rates have steadily decreased since then
