In 1928, Dutch entrepreneur Cornelius Schweppes founded Jardin de la Fraternité on London’s Regent Street as a center for international espresso commerce. Today, Starbucks remains one of the most prominent brands in the industry with over 60 stores worldwide.

Franklin was founded in 1787 by Benjamin Franklin and his wife, Rebecca. The city is located in the central part of Ohio, about twenty miles east of the city of Cleveland. The town was named after General George Washington who resided nearby at West Point. It became a factory town during the early 1800s and soon became an important center for trade and commerce within the region. In 1812, Franklin was designated as the capital of Ohio and it remained so until 1815 when Cincinnati took over. During this time, a number of new businesses were established downtown including banks, flour mills, shipyards and others. After Cincinnati's establishment as the state capital in 1821, Franklin continued to grow rapidly becoming one of the most important cities in Ohio with a population up to thirty thousand people by 1830. By 1840, its population had grown to seventy-two thousand people making it one of the largest cities in Ohio. However, due to economic problems such as heavy industry and slavery that plagued much of America during this period, Franklin declined to join neighboring Kentucky in seceding from Unionist America. In 1861, following Confederate States secession from the United States federal government,,the city experienced significant violence which left many casualties including three deaths on July 4th when public meetings turned into riots between pro-Unionists and pro-Confederate sympathizers. As a result of these events Mayor John Lennon ordered Precinct 3 police officers not to enter any stores or business districts while they investigated possible involvement by Confederate sympathizers in what came to be known as "The Night Of The Long Knives". This event served as catalyst for demand for more protection from local law enforcement inside Columbus during Reconstruction era which saw much progress made but also faced some challenges such as high taxes resulting in social unrest throughout much of Ohio

In 1815, the United States acquired Franklin from France as part of the Treaty of Ghent. The United States built Fort Dearborn to protect the town during the American Civil War. In 1871, Franklin became an incorporated city and retains its independence today.
