Fostoria is a small city in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 9,507 at the 2010 census[1]. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. Fostoria is located on the Scioto River and has a humid continental climate with hot summers and mild to cool winters. The city's economy depends on agriculture, manufacturing and trade. The first Europeans to visit Fostoria were French voyageurs in 1612 who named it Laetitia after their ship, LaetitiaMarie de France. The town was founded by members of the Ohio Company in 1792 as Fort Pittsborough on land bought from Native Americans by James Kappelder, one of the founders of Ohio Company. In 1802, it became part of what is now Delaware County when that county was created from parts of Muscatine County and Ottawa County.[2] Fostoria's history begins with its incorporation as a village in 1802; it then became an incorporated town in 1821. In 1830, it became one of three townships within Delaware County; it remaining an unincorporated community until its annexation by Columbus in 1850.[3][4] In 1870, during Reconstruction Era America's Great Migration, many African Americans relocated to Fostoria from across Ohio because they were promised free housing and education but never received these benefits as planned due to political machinations led by white politicians allied with powerful businessesand landowners.[5][6][7] By 1900, black residents made up only 2%of all citizens while whites held nearly 60%of all ownership positions within business establishments,[8] jobs that would have provided economic stability for families during difficult times. In 1915-16 when violence erupted between American Indians and white settlers over land claims near present day Toledo (the Battle Of Tiffin), some 400 people[9][10] including menagerie animals such as elephants and lions) fleeing Indian gunfire ironically landed at Fostoria Harbor before being taken aboard several vessels under Captain John Aitchison’s command before finally reaching safety onshore at nearby Kingston Landing where they fished until relieved by British warships two days later without any casualties among local Aboriginal inhabitants or any loss or damage done to either side).[11][12][13] That same year saw also the first interracial marriage in Medina County when Lucille Bogan married Alfred Beasley at trustees' meeting following his conversion from Methodism to Baptist Christianity months earlier[14]; both were attending churches located adjacent to each other along Citizen Street today known as Beasley Boulevard northward from Fourth Streetwest through downtown into University Circle eastward thence eastward into Third Streetnorthward into Citizens Square southwest towards High School Avenue northwest along that street past Union Terminal building back northeast towards Fifth Streetwest along that street past our old post office building which served us well for many years until recently demolition [15], making way for new development south down Maple Avenue eastwards out onto High School Avenue south southwards beyond our old limits just west of I-75 now known inside our borders again!

Fostoria, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Fayette County. The population was 9,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become Fostoria was James Hance in 1795. He opened a fur trading business on Main Street which he named "Hance's Fort". In 1802, Hance married Deborah Newcomer, daughter of him and Esther (Kilpatrick) Newcomer. By 1806, most of present day Fostoria had been developed when Daniel Boone discovered coal in that area and began to mine it for cash his way from Pennsylvania Dutch miners working the mines aroundFactortown (now Portsmouth). In 1820, Ohio Congressman Lewis Cass became acting governor due to conflict between John Quincy Adams and William Harrison over who would be President during the interim period until an election could be held. Asacting governor he appointed David Montgomery as territorial surveyor for what would become Fostoria Township on July 12th, 1820. On October 20th David Montgomery surveyed all land within township limits with boundaries centered at what are now Canal Street and Third Avenue east of Springfield Road north of I-670 west of High School Square south of Canal Street northward From this point onward development in what became Fostoria proceeded more or less as it does today with some key exceptions: growth occurred near Third Avenue due to its location at a crossingroads; canal construction increased shipping traffic through town; many small businesses were founded by early settlers including tailor shop operated by Solomon Palmer & His Sons; sawmills quickly replaced furriers as local industry; brickmaking soon replaced carpentry as majorstay because early brickmakers had access to clay resources nearby Foster's Store on Park Square also started out as a general store but soon turned into one of largest grocery stores in central Ohio serving both rural residents and those living near Factory Row residences which grew up along Canalside Drive between Third Avenue/High SchoolSquare/Canal Street
Fostoria was founded in 1788 by David Fostoria and his family. The city was named for General John Fisher, who helped lead the American Revolution. In 1821, Fostoria became a town when it was annexed by Terre Haute, Indiana. In 1848, the town of Vanport merged with Fostoria to form a new town. In 1865, the towns of Lancaster and Kearsley merged with Fostoria to form a new town. On January 1, 1886, the towns of Lancaster and Vanport merged into Fostoria to create a new city.
