Fostoria, Ohio is a town in Hardin County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,693 at the 2010 census. Fostoria is part of the Cincinnati–Middletown–Wilmington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Fostoria were the French in 1701 and again in 1703. A post office was established here on July 18, 1825. The town was named after frigate "Fostoria" which sailed into Youngstown Bay on October 1, 1824 as part of a squadron under Commodore James K. Polk to protect American shipping againstacanadian pirates. Commodore Polk's squadron included HMS Guerriere and HMS Stroudsburg; these warships had been built by US shipbuilder David Barron in Cleveland. In 1837, Fostoria became one of twenty-six towns in Hardin County when it was organized from parts of Lawrence Township and Union Township. In 1840, the name changed from Fostoria to its present spelling when landowner John Wertz donated the current spelling for his namesake village - "Fosteria". In 1857, an act to incorporate four villages within Hardin County failed because no one advanced financial support for it; however incorporation did occur that year for Beechwood Village (now Greenfield), Foster City (now Oskaloosa), and Unionville (later Westlake). On December 1, 1860 local residents raised $521 towards expenses associated with building a new church which would serve their community until that date - this money would also be used to finance hard times ahead such as drought-stricken 1861 and 1863; nevertheless on January 2nd 1861 they voted not only to open up their newly formed church but also buy 20 acres (8 hectares) of land adjoining it just east of Main Street - this field would become known as Old Church Park today! The first building erected here – still standing – was a log cabin dating back to 1830! On February 11th 1861 Reverend Jenson preached at Divine Providence Episcopal Church located east of Main Street opposite the old schoolhouse; during his sermon he mentioned earlier about buying property adjacent to where our current church stands today! It wasn't until 1865 that plans began for what would become our present schoolhouse – completed two years later! This house has served our community ever since as both our primary educational institution as well as home for worship services throughout those years! It should come as no surprise then that many famous people have visited or resided herein such as author Harriet Beecher Stowe who penned her best selling novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin" while living hereabouts during her childhood years; nor will it be long before another major motion picture production takes place within our walls – Hollywood's latest sensation "Hollywood Hills!" Yes indeed folks we are living history right HERE folks...right smack dab in the middle of things like Uncle Tom himself…uh oh…uh ohhh…..

Fostoria, Ohio is a city in the state of Ohio, United States. The population was 13,425 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Fayette Metropolitan Area. Fostoria was founded in 1811 by Nicholas Fostoria and his family after they moved from Stratford, Connecticut. The city was named for Nicholas’ father-in-law, John Fostoria. The city is located on the Scioto River near its confluence with the Maumee River. It is bordered by Dayton to the north, Miamisburg to the east and Clinton Township to the south. The Scioto Valley forms much of its landscape and climate; during summer months temperatures can reach as high as 37°C (100°F). The first stores in town were built around 1830 on what are now Fourth Street and State Streets. A post office was opened in 1831, and by 1840 there were five stores in town including one owned by Jno Veedersbach which became known as “the Queen of Beech Grove†due to its large beech trees that grew thereabouts. By 1850 there were twenty-six businesses operating in town with a total population of 1,500 people; this number had grown to over 25 businesses by 1860 when it reached 10,000 residents according to US Census reports. In 1870 an elevating system allowed for more efficient transportation within town and soon streets were laid out parallel to each other with intervening blocks of single family homes interspersed among larger buildings on both sides of main avenues; these developments continue throughout most of downtown today with few exceptions dating back into earlier decades such as First Avenue between Third and Fourth Streets where only two structures remain from when it originally functioned as a commercial district rather than just an open space bisected by two busy thoroughfares today! One major reason why downtown continued functioning even during times when other sections rapidly declined or disappeared is because infrastructure development occurred outside of town boundaries – primarily along Highway 71 which served not just rural areas beyond but also central Dayton proper – making it possible for businesses within limits like Fostoria (and surrounding villages) to expand their operations while still benefiting from increased access to markets outside their own borders without having their services disrupted or completely removed! Today many small business owners still operate out door despite struggles against online sales channels that have taken over traditional bricks-and-mortar storefronts across America during recent years! This type of growth continues unabated even though Main Street has undergone some significant redevelopment since 2000 including extensive paving/blocking off/ beautification projects completed inside/outside Loop 610 Arena following a devastating fire that destroyed much valuable real estate adjacent thereto several years prior… On October 11th 2016 local citizens approved Measure 5 adding $5 million towards restoring historic sidewalks & roadways along State Street between Third Avenue & Fourth Streets effectively resurrecting approximately half Pioneer Square within walking distance once again!!! With new life breathed into this vibrant business district complete with restored architecture & streetlights Downtown now pulsesagain 🙂
