Small batch coffee history in Forest Park, Ohio began with a small farmstead on the banks of the Muskingum River. In 1872, Edward R. Smith and his family started farming in what is now Forest Park. They grew corn, beans, and potatoes and sold their products door-to-door. In 1886, the Smith family moved to an abandoned log cabin on the property where they continued to grow crops and sell their produce. By 1895, The Orchard Coffee Company had been founded by three brothers - George W., Clarence D., and Alfred H.] The company was based in Akron, Ohio but produced its coffee from bean ground at its small farmstead in Forest Park. In 1915, Forrest Fenton purchased the small farmstead from the Smiths and began brewing coffee for The Orchard Coffee Company under the name Forrest's Coffee. By 1922, Forrest's Brewery had become one of two largest small batch brewers in America. Over time, Forrest's Brewing became known for its smooth roasted coffees from their large scale roasting operations located at their Farmington Hills facility near Detroit Michigan as well as their unique packaging designs which featured creative artwork on each bag of coffee. In 1964, Staggered Grains Corporation (later acquired by Peet’s Coffee) bought Forrest’s Brewing Company and began manufacturing smallbatch coffees there under the name branded Staggered Coffees Incorporated (SIC). With over 50 years of experience manufacturing high quality cupboard level beverages for institutions throughout North America – including Regal Ballroom & Casino in Atlantic City NJ – SIC helped lead American craft brewing into a new era of growth following Prohibition ended in 1933. Forest Park is a community in the northwestern part of Ohio, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus–Middletown, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Forest Park was James Fenton in 1814. A post office called "Fenton" was established in 1815, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1837, John Sperry donated land to the village for a public park. In 1860, the Village of Forest Park merged with Middletown to form the Columbus metropolitan area. In 1926, Samuel Morse donated $5 million to create a national forest system across all of Ohio; Forest Park would be one of its first properties within that system. The gift became effective on July 1, 1926 and has funded much of what makes Forest Park a thriving community today: The Morse National Recreation Area includes over 20 miles (32 km) of hiking trails as well as camping and fishing opportunities for both humans and nature preservationists alike; more than 400 maple trees were planted around town during President Barack Obama's two terms as U.S. president;Funds from invasive species control efforts have helped preserve many acres near town center; and arts programming has flourished since giving rise to such organizations as The Woods Project (the world’s largest volunteer-managed urban forestry program), which hosts summer concerts understate at local schools every June/July.; The village of Forest Park began planning for an artificial lake after World War II when people realized that they needed water for their gardens located right next to where they lived on high ground overlooking Lake Erie.. named after Samuel Morse - this great American patriot who made some amazing donations back then! Forest Park is located on the southern border of Akron and its sister city, Canton. The community began as a small village on what are now woodland property in central Akron. The first settler was John English who arrived in 1801 and named it for his home neighborhood of Bedfordshire in England. English also donated some land to form the nucleus of Forest Park Village which became a town on November 3, 1812 with Nathaniel Green as its first mayor. Allison Crouse developed Forest Park into one of the most popular communities in Greater Akron because he made it an attractive place to live and work despite the difficult economic times during the late 1800s. He started out by opening up shoprooms along Third Street – later renamed Fourth Street – which still serve as major commercial corridors today.
