The community was founded in 1868 as a small village on what are now Mapleton and Old Bedford Streets in downtown Ottawa. The name derived from its location near Forest Hill Cemetery in nearby Pittsburgh. In 1872, the village became an incorporated town with a population of 1,500 people; it remained an unincorporated community until 1978 when it became part of Ottawa Township. In 1902, one of Ottawa's two stations on the Allegheny Railroad was transferred to Forest Park and renamed "Forest Park Station". When that line closed in 1968, Amtrak reactivated it as "Pittsburgh/Forest Park" which continued until 1992 when Amtrak discontinued service to all stops within Pennsylvania due to budget cuts. The commercial center around McKeesport Boulevard has grown rapidly since then but much of what used to be forest park remains today including many homes built after closure of mills along McKeesport Boulevard such as Allendale Mills and Pennington Mills which closed in 1984 and 1990 respectively according to township records; these closures left several acres still forested while other areas were developed into housing tracts or commercial neighborhoods like McKeesport Boulevard itself became known as "Rochester Hills."

Forest Park is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, situated on the southern edge of the Greater Cleveland metropolitan area. The population was 27,827 at the 2010 census,[1] and it is part of the Akron–Canton–Muncie statistical area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Forest Park were French traders in 1795 while travelling through present-day Pennsylvania. They named a small piece of land east of where modern day Euclid Avenue stands, "Pleasant Valley", after their findings there. In 1814, General James Kroupa organized the village of Westlake near today's downtown Akron, naming it for himself and his family's home in Indiana. When he died in 1826, his heirs divided his estate among themselves as part of an effort to avoided baldness caused by military service during the War for Independence (1812-1815). In 1836, western developer George Wickersham bought 1/4 mile (0.6 km) south from Pleasant Valley from William Holland and erected a log cabin known as Wickersham House which he named for himself and wife Charlotte Cuyler Wickersham (1792-1873). He also developed what is now northeast corner of Wilson Boulevard and Capitol Drive into one large agricultural township called Forest Park with over 20 farms scattered around 100 acres (40 hectares). By 1840, much later when forest cover had increased considerably due to advances in forestry technology and various fires that burned across central Ohio during this time period - only 2 or 3 homes still remain standing within Forest Park Township - Wickersham had developed such a strong presence that he was given permission by President John Quincy Adams to name his new township after him – George Washington Township – located adjacent to Princeton University on Lake Erie whereAdams played football for Princeton Tigers football teams from 1834-1838; incidentally also located just northwest side of current day Euclid Avenue between Union Chapel Road NW and Wilson Boulevard NE! On November 16th 1830 residents elected Solomon Halleck as Mayor with James Fenton serving as clerk; these early days are documented when town meetings were held at home rather than outside because no printing press yet existed!
