The Forest Park, Ohio Military Deployed Gift History began in World War II when the United States military stationed a detachment of troops at the park. The troops used the gift shop and post office located on Village Green to issue gifts to their soldiers and other members of the military. After the war, Forest Park became home to an American Legion Post and continued to be a popular location for military gifts until 1984 when it was closed due to budget cuts. In 1987, Forest Park reopened as a community center and began accepting donations from individuals and businesses who wished to send a message of support for the local community. Forest Park, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. The population was 27,808 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Lucas County by population. It is part of the Cincinnati–Middletown–Wilmington Combined Statistical Area with a total population of more than 500,000 people. The area that would become Forest Park was first settled by Europeans in 1788. In 1814, Polish settlers arrived to purchase land from the Native Americans near what is now Roosevelt Road and High Street. The new town was named for John Forester, an officer in the British army who had served in North America during the War for Independence. He had been sent to survey land between Huntington and Liverpooltown on the Scioto River when he discovered a tract of land that would later be called Forest Park. In 1825, General David Levy purchased 2,500 acres (10 km2) of forestland from John Forester for $1 million dollars ($ as of 2019). This acquisition made forest park one of Ohio's most valuable natural resources and helped forge its relationship with Cincinnati as both centers of trade and industry. By 1830, much of what became Forest Park had been developed as part-time farming villages known as "Fruitlands." A fire destroyed many fruitlands in 1834 but did not entirely destroy them; subsequent growth within Forest Park led to their revival some years later. During this time period there were efforts to establish schools within Forest Park; these efforts failed because wealthy residents wanted their children to marry into wealthier families or move away to cities where they could continue living better off than their parents had done before them. In 1839 enrollment at Oneida School increased from six students to twenty-six thanks largely to money donated by local industrialist George Stephenson; due partly to Stephenson’s donation many other small towns followed suit and Schools were established throughout Northern Ohio beginning in 1840 such that by 1860 all but two – Cleveland (which retained its locally controlled school system until 1912) – had educational institutions serving majority white populations inside their borders! The early 20th century saw significant growth within ForestPark due largely to transportation advancements through inventions like gasoline vehicles and motorboats which allowed farmers access new markets outside their homes while creating jobs on large ships moored near downtown Cincinnati dockside warehouses where goods were unloaded onto barges which transported them downriver for processing into finished products either exported or consumed domestically! For a time this model characterized American commerce just as rapidly growing industries like automobiles manufacturing plants Textile mills frying bacon etc soon outgrew dock space even scarcer river ports across country - another sign how major east coast coastal metropolises influenced rural inland agricultural aspirations throughout US late 19th century
The Forest Park community was established in 1892, when a group of men who had purchased land in the park started to build homes. The first home, called "The Grove", was built on what is now the corner of Euclid and Liberty Streets. In 1923, the city of Cleveland bought the entire park, and the name change to Forest Park after it. The first public park in Cleveland was also named Forest Park.
