Forest Park is a city in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 20,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron-Canton metropolitan area. The first European settlers in present-day Forest Park were Methodists from North Carolina. The town was platted on May 5, 1827 by Daniel Webster and David Denton. In 1830 it became the home of General James Fenton during the American Civil War as his headquarters for military operations around Defiance Hill. In 1871, Simeon Temple purchased land in what is now Forest Park from General Lewis Cass to create a new township that would be separate from the rest of Lucas County. The first mayor of Forest Park was John Aiken (1906-1909). In 1908, Illinoisan Augustus Kelley installed a sawmill on the banks of the Mahoning River in what is now called Kelley Heights. This mill continued operation until 1964 when it stopped due to financial problems and its site was used for other businesses and homes until it was replaced by a nearby Walmart Supercenter in 2001. The city's rapid growth following World War II led to an increase in crime and social unrest; this led to increased police activity throughout the city center and suburban areas bordering Forest Park - which included some of Cleveland's most high-profile cases such as multiple murders committed by Lee Harvey Oswald inside City Hall just blocks away from where people could see him every day on television images broadcasting into downtown Cleveland while he plotted assassinations against US president John F Kennedy

Forest Park is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the seat of Warren County. The population was 54,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of Forest Park goes back to 1836 when it was organized as a village by Order of the Cincinnati under James K. Polk as a stop on their horse-drawn mail coach route from Cincinnati to Mentor and then to Youngstown.[1] The first post office was established in 1837, and the first store opened in 1840. In 1845, Forest Park became a incorporated town when it adopted a constitution and adopted an official seal; it reverted to its original name after two years.[2] In 1907, forest park became part of the new Cleveland metropolitan area following creation of that region by an act of Congress via legislation known as "An Act To Consolidate Counties". As part of this consolidation process, many small towns within Cleveland were merged into larger cities like Cleveland and Akron while Forest Park remained isolated within Warren County. On July 1, 1968, portions of Warren County including parts of Forest Park were annexed by neighboring unincorporated community OFallon Township;[3][4] this annexation removed much rural land from forest park's borders making it one million acres (400 km2) smaller than before but resulting in significant growth inside the city limits due to increased development around its airport (now Greater Cleveland Airport), shopping malls (including Quicken Loans Arena), industrial parks (such as Cuyahoga Valley National Laboratory), and other major economic factors which continue today with continued suburbanrowth in both north/central Ohio[5][6].
