The history of shooters in Findlay, Ohio can be traced back to the early 1800s. Gunsmiths and rifle dealers in the small town began selling firearms to farmers and their families. After World War I ended, many Americans left Findlay for military service or new opportunities overseas. As gun sales decreased in the 1920s, local manufacturers started producing handguns again. In 1930, Don Clements founded Clements Firearms Corporation which manufactured both action pistols and revolvers under his own name as well as those of other manufacturers throughout Ohio until he sold it to Smith & Wesson in 1968. From then on until 1978 when it was merged into Springfield Armory Inc., Springfield Armory was responsible for manufacturing all handgun models except Beretta Model 9mm Pistols which continued to be produced by Don Clements’ company still today (but now S&W also manufactures Glock pistols). During this time period there were several mass shootings occurring across America; however no such tragedies took place within the city limits of Findlay until 2003 when two men shot at a business target practice session at Belle Isle Park killing one person and wounding four others before shooting themselves dead. It is the third-largest city in Summit County after Dayton and Akron. Foundlay has a rich history dating back to its founding by fur traders in 1788 as a trading post on the Great Miami River. The town's first settler, Levi Coffin, named it for his home country, France. Findlay was known for its flour mills and other businesses until World War I when it became an agricultural center due to its fertile land and good production values of corn, beans, soybeans, cottonseed oil and other crops. The area now occupied by Findlay was included within Green Township until 1871 when it became part of what is now Muskegon Heights Township. In 1925 Findlay merged with neighboring townships to form what is now Summit County but retains some vestiges of its French colonial past including streets named after both Louis XVI (rue de la Montagne) and Marie Antoinette (rue du Faubourg Saint-Martin). The population increased rapidly during World War II due to military production at nearby Lake Erie Naval Ammunition Plant No 1 which produced munitions such as bombs, shells and rockets used in World War II; this led to Addison becoming one of the most heavily populated cities in Ohio that did not have a large African American population because most manufacturing had moved away from central Ohio during WWII First Nation women began knitting socks at their homes near Addison's downtown during WWI while they were spinning yarn for soldiers' uniforms out of raw wool imported from England
