In 1856, the first gunsmith in Fairview Park, Ohio, opened his shop. The shop was located on the banks of the Olentangy River and made all types of firearms including rifles and pistols. Fairview Park is a small town in northeastern Ohio, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Summit, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The park is located on the southern edge of Akron and has a total area of . The first settler in Fairview Park was James Wigglesworth. He and his wife, Mary Ann (née Moody), founded Fairview Township in 1814. In 1825, they laid out what would become Fairview Park on their farmstead. The park's name was chosen to honor Sir John Fairchild (1795-1868), an Englishman who donated land for the park in 1827. In 1912, voters approved a $5 million appropriation from the state legislature to improve public parks throughout the state. President Woodrow Wilson signed legislation creating the National Parks Service on July 1, 1916. As part of that organization, FairVIEW PARK became one of its initial sites within Cleveland County. The fairgrounds were built between 1915 and 1919 by local contractor John Ladds after World War I military barracks were destroyed or damaged during fighting in Europe. Fairview Park is a neighborhood in the Cleveland, Ohio area. It was originally developed as part of the city's east side and is now located on the west side of Cleveland. The park was established in 1892, and is one of several neighborhoods within Cleveland that have been designated a historic district. Fairview Park has a rich history that can be traced back to 1892 when it was first established as part of the city's eastern side. The land for the park was donated by John Gorman and his wife, Eliza Bigham Gorman. At its dedication, Fairview Park consisted of just over 700 acres (24 km2) and included three small ponds: Elmira Pond, Mill Pond, and West Point Pond. The park quickly became popular among Clevelanders, who enjoyed playing in its small ponds and exploring its natural surroundings. In 1912, Fairview Park underwent an expansion which added four more streets - Harrison Street to the north; Terrace Road to the south; Norris Lane to the east; and Orchard Avenue to the west - making it significantly larger than it currently is. Despite this enlargement, however, Fairview Park remained relatively unchanged throughout its years as a public domain property within city limits. This changed in 1978 when plans were unveiled for development on what would become northeast corner of Dearborn Street between Prospect Avenue and Euclid Avenue - adjacent to Strongsville State University - which would have resulted in significant changes to both Fairview Park itself as well as neighboring neighborhoods on either side of Dearborn Street. Initially opposed by many residents living near Dearborn Street due to their fear that such an impact would lead to increased crime rates within their community, initial plans for development at FairVIEW PARK failed to receive approval from City Council members until after negotiations with developers had been completed regarding features including high-rise condominiums atop existing schools on nearby blocks across from Strongsville State University (now known as Cuyahoga Heights). On July 1st 1993 – less than two months after Mayor Frank Jackson announced his plan for new development along Euclid Avenue between Perdue Boulevard and Lorain Avenue – demolition began on what had once been known as FairVIEW PARK II following approval from city officials concerning potential uses for future space inside or outside of Philadelphia Athletics ballpark (now Progressive Field). Although much discussion surrounded whether or not Philadelphia Athletics tickets could still be sold at game locations during demolition operations – which took place over several days leading up until August 26th – openly cheering crowds lined up along Euclid Avenue awaiting their chance at witnessing one of baseball's most iconic moments firsthand proved too much for some residents who felt Koch/Athletics signage was disrupting their peaceful Neighborhood watch program already struggling understaffing levels . Eventually all tickets were refunded following agreement reached between developer(s) responsible for stadium redevelopment project(s) & City Officials
The Fairview Park neighborhood was developed in the early 1800s on the east side of FairVIEW Drive. The name comes from a grant given to Reverend Dr. James Fairfield by President George Washington in 1792. The land for the neighborhood was donated by John Morrill and others, and it became part of Lucas County when it was created in 1823. The first settlers were Reuben and Sarah Morse, who arrived around 1800. Other early residents included Daniel Webster, who lived on Third Street between Clinton and Elm Streets; Ebenezer Cooke, who lived on Second Street between Summit and Maple Streets; Nathaniel Dawes, who moved from Connecticut to Ohio in 1796; Amos Kendall, who bought land near where Watertown Square is now located; General David Wooster settled at Broad Ripple Creek in 1798-99; Samuel French also established a home hereabouts in 1802-03. As development increased along Fairview Drive, businesses began moving into the area as well: A millinery shop opened up on Fourth Street in 1824; a restaurant called "the Grecian" opened up at Seventh Avenue and East Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard (now Harrison Road) in 1830; an ice cream parlor called "Cindy's Creamery" opened up at Eighth Avenue and East Capitol Street sometime before 1840-41; boots manufacturer Fenton & Dunlap started doing business here about 1850. In 1861, abolitionist leader John Brown raided a farm nearby while being pursued by Ohio State troopers – this event helped spur public support for secession from the United States that led to the American Civil War two years later. In 1876–77,Fairview Park was annexed by southside city of Cincinnati after its population had grown rapidly there following industrialization within that city boundaries during that period. In 1907–08 Cincinnati annexing another area including parts of northside communities of Lawrenceburg Heights (then known as North Lawrence), Newport Hills (then known as Westwood Heights), Stroudsburg (then known as South Stroudsburg), Highland Heights (now part of Dayton), Vineland (now Middletown Township), along with much rural land eastward until then annexation limits were reached beyond which no further annexation would be possible due to lack of population density within those areas yet remaining annexation were possible only if the townships met certain conditions including meeting zoning requirements related to fire protection/housing needs/open space needs etc.; these limits did not apply to Fairview Park neighborhoods which continued unincorporated into Cincinnati suburbs until 1970 when they too became part of Middletown Township
