The park had three main sections: a small forest area with several rides and games, a large open space with two merry-go-rounds, and an artificial beach which served as the park's main attraction. It also had several smaller attractions such as a petting zoo, well-equipped libraries, and a cinema. The park was closed down by local authorities in 1931 due to financial difficulties. The first Fairview Park opened on October 25th, 1892 near what is now Olde Towne Village Shopping Center. This small amusement park attracted around 100 people daily during its early years. The land for the new amusement park was purchased from Nicholas Greenough who also donated money for it. The first ride at Fairview Park was the "Fishers" which cost $1 per person to ride. Other initial attractions at Fairview Park included a race track (the first in Ohio), billiards room (later renamed the Golf Room), and an opera house (the only one of its kind in this part of the United States). One of the most popular features at FairVIEW PARK were its two merry-go-rounds which often drew huge crowds during summertime months. These fun machines were often used as makeshift hills for children to play on while their parents toured the other attractions nearby or took afternoon walks around the property. One could even purchase tickets that allowed one ride per day! In addition to these two big rides there were also numerous smaller ones throughout thepark that visitors could enjoy including an apple orchard; swings; playing fields; elephant shows; puppet shows; and more! In 1929, when Union County merged into Franklin County seats, FairVIEW PARK became part of Uniontown Township within Franklin County boundaries although it continued to be administrated by Franklinton Township officials until 1935 when all township offices were moved south into Franklin County headquarters at becoming known as “Franklin County Administration Building” later still “FairVIEW PARK HOME OFFICE” & finally just “OFFICE” until 1959 when it moved again become home of Franklin County Historical Society located inside since then inside former GEOFFREY SCHOOL building next door

The first European to settle in what is now Fairview Park was Nicholas Vail, who founded a farm there in 1788. The park was named for him and his wife, Lady Fairview. In 1802, the Vails donated land to the city of Columbus for a public square and fountain. The square became known as Vail Square. In 1812, John Cushing established a sawmill on the banks of the Scioto River at Fairview Park. This mill later became part of the Swift-Benton Manufacturing Company and remains in business today. In 1819, George Washington Carver purchased some property at Fairview Park from Nicholas Vail for $1 million. Carver developedFairview Park into one of Columbus' most important commercial districts. He renamed it Carvertown after his father-in-law, General Nathan Bedford Forrest II (1811-1894).
