Fairview Park is a community located in the town of Fairview, in Bedford County, Ohio. The population was 1,811 at the 2000 census. It is made up of two villages: Fairview and Hyde Park. The name "Fairview" comes from a map of the area that showed clear land to the east and west of where present-day FairVIEW stands. One account says that John Trumbull came across this land on his way from returned from war with France in 1763. He named his new settlement after General George Washington's home state of Virginia, which he had visited there earlier that year. In 1814, when America became a nation, FairVIEW became part of it as well and its name has been unchanged since then. The community was originally developed around a schoolhouse and farm buildings that were used until about 1920. A new school was built in 1928,although use continued for other purposes until 1991 when it closed due to budget cuts by local officials. The building has been leased to different businesses over the years but never rented back to the school district again because they could not find an appropriate use for it within their budget constraints. In early 2006, plans were announced byBedford County to raze the old building and replace it with a new facility using funds raised through various fundraising events throughout2006-2007 including "A Taste Of History". As part of this project some work on restoration began on what had once been one of Bedford County's largest barns/houses which housed several hundred chickens during prohibition days!
