Fairview Park is a neighborhood in the city of Cleveland, Ohio. It is located in the east-central portion of the city, bordered by Euclid Avenue to the north, John Day Boulevard to the northeast, and State Road 830 to the south. The community was founded in 1892 as part of Cleveland's gentrification process. It has since regained some prominence as an educational and recreational center for its residents and visitors. The Fairview Park neighborhood took its name from Fairview Heights Cemetery, which was located on fairgrounds within walking distance of many homes in the area. The cemetery was first settled in 1836 and eventually served as a burial ground for many people who lived near Cleveland until it closed in 1967. The land that now makes up Fairview Park was annexed by Cleveland in 1912. The first resident to live at Fairview Park must have been born between 1800 and 1825 because there are no records of such people living anywhere near Fairview Park before that time. Many early settlers came from Pennsylvania or other areas around Great Lakes region during this time period because they were looking for a new home after being displaced by warfare or natural disasters around those regions. Only later did African Americans start moving into this area as well, with their own version of gentrification taking place starting around 1920 when they started buying property here based on job opportunities available then instead of simply renting from landlords.
