The Fairfield National Guard was organized on April 18, 1861 inFairfield, Ohio. It is the third oldest National Guard unit in the United States and one of only a few that still exists today. The Fairfield National Guard has beenUrlred with distinction for its service during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The fairfield national guard's roots can be traced back to 1838 when a group of farmers banded together to form a militia to protect their community from Native American attacks. In 1846, the state of Ohio passed an act creating militias to provide security for settlers against Indian raids. Between 1847 and 1861, six different states joined Ohio in forming militias: West Virginia (1848), Indiana (1849), Michigan (1850), Illinois (1851), Iowa (1852) and New York (1853). In 1861, after the Civil War ended, Congress created a new Federal Reserve Bank in Cleveland so that reserve banks could offer loans to businesses without being subject to municipal or state regulation. This new institution required every bank across America to arm themselves with pistols and shotguns as part of their infantry reserves. The United States military was also called upon to help garrison federal installations around the country due to Confederate troop movements within reach of our shores. On April 6th, 1861, Governor John Fenton issued an order authorizing each township within 10 miles of Columbus Barracks in Fairfield Township formed into companies or units thereof “for efficient service in all cases now peculiarly concern[ing] this county’s defense." On July 1st 1861 about 200 men fromCVandolph Co., OH & Ft Wayne Ind., IN Volunteer Infantry Companies were mustered out at Dayton . A day later they re-mobilized with 1/2ton CSA wagons at Dayton while other volunteers marched into town , armed only with handguns

The National Guard was established on July 15, 1792 in the United States of America as a response to the outbreak of war with France. The militia system that had been in place since 1640 was refashioned to create a national guard, and it was given the power to call up men for military service without having to go through an elected government. In 1916, Congress passed an act giving the National Guard automatic training and equipment requisitioning authority over all other branches of the military. In 1971, when President Richard Nixon announced his plan to reduce U.S. defense spending by reducing expendable forces, the National Guard became one of his first cabinet departments. Since its inception, the National Guard has played a critical role in American history and tradition. It has fought in both World War I and World War II; during both wars it played an important part in providing support to local Units on the battlefields. Additionally, members have served in many municipal and state governments throughout America since 1971 when President Nixon announced his plans to reduce U.S. defense spending by reducing expendable forces; today some 2 million Americans serve in The National Guard worldwide! Today's strength lies not only within our own shores but also internationally with units currently deployed around the world including deployments into Afghanistan and Iraq as well as deployments into Africa domestically through units called "Blue Angels." Fairfield is a small town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Marshall Area. The first settler in what would become Fairfield was John Brown in 1814. He built a cabin on the Scioto River and named it "Brownsville." In 1827, he founded the village of Fairfield on land he had acquired from the Scioto Company. The name "Fairfield" was given to it by Major General John Taylor, who visited Fairfield in 1828 while campaigning for Ohio's admission into the Union as a free state. In 1851, James Dolan bought 9 acres (3 hectares) of land north of downtown from Mr. Brown and developed it into an area known as Dolan's Hill. This site served as the nucleus for today's fairgrounds which include adjacent businesses and residences within walking distance of one another on several blocks of Neil Avenue south of I-490 near Interstate 790. Dolan opened his store at 17 Neil Avenue on July 1, 1850; this became Fairfield's first post office four years later when its predecessor closed because Of coarse Street became too wide for wagon traffic to cross without entering through vehicles at each end). The first train passed through town on November 6, 1851 when it arrived from Cleveland via I-480 to pick up passengers bound for Canton and other points eastward. By 1860, there were six stores and thirty-six dwellings in Fairfield with a population of over 100 people! As commerce grew more important to local residents than agriculture or tourism during the decades following abolitionism throughout America’s Civil War era (1861 - 1865),Fairfields rapidly transformed into an industrial center due to its strategic location between two major railroads –the Liverpool Road Railroad northwest of Cleveland and Western Reserve Railway southeast of Cleveland –and its ample amounts of coal resources making it both an early adopter and exporterof new technologies including electric lightbulbs (1866), refrigerators (1868), automobiles (1912), radios (1920)and television sets (1935). Coalmining continued until production ceased entirely about 1930; however many defunct mines are still visible along Neil Avenue today such as: Old No 5 Mine located just off Neil Ave., now used as parking lot for nearby apartments; First Open Pit mine also located just offNeil Ave., now home to several large trees after being flattened by heavy rains during 2006 floodplain inundation; Second Open Pit Mine also located just offNeil Ave., now abandoned completely with no access leading inside except using ladder present only outside); Third Open Pit Mine also located just offNeil Ave., now abandoned completely due to subsidence caused by wet weather conditions over recent years????? During World War II much production took place here including munitions plants producing Katyusha rockets utilized by Nazi Germany.; Paper processing included manufacturing seamless paper towels called “Kraftwäsche” that reached common markets all around Europe.; Chemical plants produced fuel oil used mostly by military aircraft builders like Boeing & Lockheed Aircraft Corp.; Steel mills turned out tens if not hundreds thousands tons/year OF steel products such as airplane frames & aerial parts needed for warplanes & tanks etc.......In recent years numerous retail shops have opened up along Neil avenue including some very successful chain stores like JCPenney (), Sears (), Macy’s ()DNorman (); Bankers Trust ());Church’s (); Dickies ();Plymouth ().Today many old favorites like Bicknell’s Candy Bar (), Dunkin Donuts (), Starbucks () still thrive well despite numerous closures over past few years.......
On July 1, 1825, Fairfield Township was organized. It was named for the fertile soil around it. The first post office in the township was established on Christmas day, 1825. On November 2, 1830, a schoolhouse and one store were built in what is now the town of Fairfield. The township's population increased rapidly from small groups of families to over 100 in 1850. In 1860, a millinery business was started in what is now the town of Dayton and by 1870 had become a leading center for cloth exports throughout the Midwest. During World War I (1914-18), Fairfield was an active production center with various industries including munitions manufacturing and shipbuilding. After the war ended, many businesses closed down but two others - a grocery store and a chemical company - remain today as major employers in Fairfield.
