Fairfield was founded in 1802 by ColonelFairfield Hoadley, who named it for himself and his family after their home in England. The first post office in Fairfield opened on November 1, 1802. In 1916-1917 there were two devastating fires that destroyed buildings and killed many people in what is known as Fairfields Firestorm or also called Richland Hills Firestorm because so many businesses were destroyed near Richland Hills School which stands today across from Interstate 270 off I-275 and Richland Hills Boulevard (now State Route 150). That fire burned for days destroying all but one business block including both posts office and mills buildings then going into residential areas before finally dying out just outside town boundsdue to overspreading flames while firefighters did not have access to water supplies which would have put out the fire

Fairfield is a city in and the county seat of Fairfield County, Ohio, United States. The population was 46,812 at the 2010 census. The city is located on the eastern edge of Cleveland metropolitan area and is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton Combined Statistical Area. The first residents of what is now Fairfield were Native Americans who lived on a band of land near what is now Mentor Avenue and Lorain Street. In 1814, when Ohio became a state, it included all of modern-day Erie County as well as parts of present-day Fairfield Township and Hamilton Township. There was no town or village established in this area until 1830, when John Denton founded Harrisonville on the east side of Lorain River. soon after he named his settlement after George Washington's home country – Virginia. In 1836, David Sargeant purchased 640 acres (248 ha) south of Harrisonville from John Denton for $1,000 cash and began to build a township called Sargeantstown with its own government under which citizens could engage in agriculture, trade goods with other towns within Ohio, worship God according to their choice (the first religious services were held here on October 12th), build roads and churches etc., while also managing their own affairs through voting meetings every two years. In 1837 Sargeantstown had a population of about 100 people; by 1840 it had grown to over 200 people due to increased trade with neighboring villages including Dayton and Elyria as well as new settlers coming downriver from Pennsylvania via the Great Lakes region during that period experiencing many changes for the first time in their lives: they encountered wilderness with great challenges ranging from difficult terrain to drought conditions; but they also experienced opportunity because early pioneers had seen this land lying vacant for so long – until finally being platted by Sargeant himself only three years before! By 1850 there were 3 stores/mills/farms/buildings operations active in Sargeantstown; total agricultural production had reached 1 million bushels (equivalent to 20 tons) per annum! The growth rates during these years are telling: not only did township boundaries change frequently (eastern Fairfield Townshipadding nearly 60 square miles between 1840-1860 while western Fairfield Township shrunk back by almost half); but also social norms changed too – families started splitting up into small clusters instead each looking out for themselves “self-sufficient” lifestyle continuing even into today’s times despite continuous suburban development right outside our door! Meanwhile downtown continued evolving into one large vibrant community where merchants could offer groceries and other sundries local farmers could sell eggs from their barns plus carriages arriving daily bringing news items along with passengers stopping off at local inns en route back home… This Merchants Row thrived through prohibition efforts which devastated both industries throughout much OF CLEVELAND during those days! It wasn't until 1921 that prohibition ended completely followed by mass relocation inland towards Cleveland proper creating an entirely new economy characterized NOW by OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY PARKS AND AVERAGE FAMILY RATE OF OVER $60K+ Per Year !!
