The Fairborn Army Garrison was established in 1827 as a military post on the banks of the Maumee River. In 1847, the post was redesignated as an infantry regiment and served in the Mexican-American War. The regiment lost most of its soldiers during that conflict and was disbanded in 1849. In 1861, Fairborn became part of the Union army and saw service in the American Civil War. The garrison fought at battles such as Bull Run and Antietam. It also helped to build Fort Donelson on Cumberland River. After the war, Fairborn's military presence waned but it continued to be home to a small school and prison until 1945. Today, there is no active military presence in Fairborn but portions of its downtown remain property of the United StatesArmy Garrison Force Reserve (USAGF). This reserve unit is responsible for providing guard duty for local businesses, residences, and parks during off-hours. Additionally, USAGF patrols Interstate 190 near Fairborn's city limits.

The Fairborn Ohio Volunteers (A.K.A. the "Old Guard") was an all volunteer army that served in the Union during the American Civil War. The volunteers were organized on September 15, 1861, by Colonel John A. Logan andFirst Lieutenant George Washington Wiley at a meeting at the home of Colonel Edward Fenton in Fairborn Township. At first there were just a few dozen men, but quickly word spread and other towns in the area soon followed suit with their ownVolunteer units. The Old Guard unit initially consisted of men from neighboring towns such as Bedford Heights, Delaware Heights, Dunkirk Heights, and New Albany Heights as well as Fairborn Township itself. Soon enough local businesses started to donate weapons and equipment to the effort as well (some even came up with money to fund the purchase). Initially called simply "the Volunteer Army", membership grew rapidly and within a few months there were over 100 soldiers under Logan's command. By October 1861 they had formalized their name as "the Old Guard" and began preparing for battle against numerically superior Confederate forces stationed inside of Cincinnati in what would be known as Battle of Cynthiana Ridge. In early November 1861 Captain George Wirtz arrived with reinforcements from Columbus Ohio and assumed command of the Old Guard unit after Logan fell injured near Dayton on November 1st while leading his brigade into action against Confederate forces under General Nathan Bedford Forrest Jr.. In short order Wirtz had put together an effective fighting force which helped turn back Confederate advances at Cynthiana Ridge before finally succumbing to his injuries two days later - he is buried next to Logan at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia today).
Fairborn, Ohio is a small town in the southern part of Ohio. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is located in Athens County. The first Europeans to visit Fairborn were the French in 1792 and they named it "Aresburg." In 1825, the village was incorporated as a township by order of President James K. Polk. When Fairborn became an independent city in 1907, its boundaries were adjusted to encompass all of Athens County. The name "Fairborn" comes from two local streams which flowed through the community: the upper stream called "the fair" because of its beauty during summertime; and lower stream called "the broad," because it widened gradually as it passed through Fairborn's center. The community was originally organized into five wards (north central, south central, east central, west central), each headed by one delegate from among its residents who voted on issues related to their ward's concerns. This system continued until 1913 when it was replaced by a mayoral government with fifteen elected officials instead of five delegates/wards. In 1814-15 future Ulysses S Grant attended a school meeting at what is now High School #1 in Fairborn where he learned about law enforcement and politics before attending college at Cincinnati Law School that year. He returned to Fairborn in 1826 after his studies and began practicing law there with John Pemberton Howe until his death in 1878. In 1830-31 Grant served on Athens County Council where he played an important role developing county ordinances and regulations while also feuding with other members over control of local finances and services such as education or justice administration - something that would lead to much conflict between these groups over time throughout Northern Ohio even unto this day! To date there are no known evidences that support any claim that Ulysses S Grant ever visited or resided within the borders of today’s Fairborn but without any proof beyond circumstantial evidence we can only assume he did if not actually live here then most likely visit regularly!

Fairborn is a town in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1810 and named for George Fairbanks, an American Revolutionary War general and delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1787. The town became a city in 1902. Fairborn is located on the Scioto River between Dublin and Mentor. The first settler in what is now Fairborn was John Watkins who arrived in 1797. In 1810, George Fairbanks purchased land from the Native Americans and laid out a town on the river bank near where it now stands. He named it after himself, Georges Fairfax County being his father's name. The first black person to live in what is now Fairborn was James Weems who came to America aboard the ship "John Adams" in 1827. When he arrived there were only two other blacks living in America at that time: John Quincy Adams' servant Tom Thumb and General Andrew Jackson's slave Sally Hemings
The first settlers in Fairborn, Ohio were James and Martha White. The Whites purchased land from the Delaware Indians in 1795. They erected a small log cabin on the right bank of the Scioto River. In 1807, they built a larger cabin on what is now East Main Street. The Whites were pioneers in developing Fairborn as a town. They built churches and schools, and later founded the Agricultural Society of Ohio.
