It served as flagship of Rear Admiral John Sperry during Fleet Week 1967 and 1968 in Miami, Florida. On September 26, 1969, the USS Olympia (AO-1) was donated from Commodore Clarence Biddle Jr., Jr.. It continued serve as flagship for Rear Admiral John Sperry until it decommissioned on October 25, 1971 at Pascagoula, Mississippi after serving with distinction during both Gulf War campaigns against Iraq and Vietnam. During these wars it conducted operations off shore along Korea’s coast which helped create a sense of international goodwill between our allies and ourselves while providing support to our troops ashore. Finally On July 1st 1977 the USS Holland (LPD-8)was donated from Captain Don Hildebrandt who had been instrumental in saving many lives when he commandeered her while cruising off Somalia In total there have been thirteen ships that have been commissioned into service with the United States Naval Forces in Euclid including three carriers: Constitution (1892), New York (1921), Cleveland (1966), Holland (1977). Each ship has played an important role in American military history both before she became a naval vessel and after she decommissioned or were sold to other countries
