Englewood, Ohio is a city located in the southwestern corner of Ohio. It was founded in 1814 and has been the county seat of Cuyahoga County since 1837. The population of Englewood was 913 as of the 2010 census. The city began as a small settlement on the west side of what is now East Fourth Street and Clinton Avenue, about one mile from the present-day site of Cleveland. A group of Methodist Episcopal missionaries arrived in 1814 and built a log cabin on what is now Park Lane. In 1850, when Cleveland became an incorporated town, residents of Englewood petitioned for their own government. They were successful and elected a mayor and five members to the first municipal council. In 1857, after years of struggles with developers who wanted to build railroads through their area, voters approved an ordinance creating a planning commission to develop plans for larger developments. The firstEnglewood subdivision was developed between Union Chapel Road and Euclid Avenue in 1865. In 1870, two more wards were created: one near West Sixth Street and Euclid Avenue (the easternmost ward) and another just east of that at Dearborn Street and Park Row (the westernmost ward). Development continued apace until World War II when wartime restrictions on housing led to a decline in population; however, commercial development has resumed since then. Today Englewood is home to many vibrant neighborhoods including NorthEnglewood which borders Lorain Heights; West Side which borders Hyde Park; Upper Arlington which borders Mentor; Allendale which borders Strongsville; Brockport which border Mentor & Muskegon Heights; Wexford Hills which borders Reserve Township & Bellefontaine Township
