Coast Guard gift history in Englewood, Ohio began with the establishment of the United States Coast Guard on August 29, 1898. The Coast Guard's first detachment was located at Fort Meade in Baltimore County, Maryland. The first Americanshore patrol vessel (later to become the USCG Cutter) was built at a shipbuildingyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and commissioned into service on December 1, 1903. On July 15, 1912, the USCG commenced offering membership to women who had completed their high school education. In 1938 the Coast Guard established its own aviation unit which became known as Helicopter Squadron One (HS-1). In 1959 there was an all female team consisting of seamen from USS Constitution (CV-4) which made an emergency landing on Long Island during hurricane Sandy. The Coast Guard has been in Englewood, Ohio since 1912 and the unit was founded as a seaman militia. The first Coast Guard Station in Englewood was established on October 1, 1912. In 1917, the station became an auxiliary coast guard station and then a full-fledged Coast Guard Station on July 1, 1932. On November 5, 1941, the Coast Guard Station moved to its current location at 201 W State St. The station was renamed the Coast Guard Memorial Station on May 3, 1984. On September 15, 1990, the station reopened after being closed for more than two years due to repairs and renovations. In January 2001, the station was again closed due to renovation but reopened on February 9th with updated security features including state of the art warning systems and video cameras.

It was named for Englishman Sir George Engle, who had bought land here in 1815. The city's economy is based on manufacturing and services such as retail trade, transportation, education, health care and government services. In addition to its academic institutions, Englewood includes two Fortune 500 companies: Seagrams & Co., which manufactures spirits worldwide, and WCOX-TV/CW (NBC), an ABC affiliate that has been affiliated with the network since 1973. The city also ranks fifth in Forbes' list of "America's Most Diverse Cities" for 2016–17. In 1831 John Engle and his wife Abigail (née Shanahan) founded Englewood on land they had purchased from George Engle after he had bought it from him following a purchase dispute between them two years earlier while George was out of town on business travels to Europe. The name “Englewood” originated from an English gentleman who had bought land hereabouts some twenty years before John andAbigail Engel donated it to the community in honor of their late father-in-law Rev.(George A.) Engelbaugh FRCP(DCD) – an American Presbyterian clergyman who served as pastor at Our Lady’s Chapel at Easton during World War II when many Americans volunteered their time or money for that cause; he also initiated many civic improvements including paving streets throughout town plazas with brick mixed with straw to reduce dust mites associated with crops grown indoors; erecting several churches including one dedicated to Our Lady Of Fatima – both were built without any private contributions but are now listed on the National Register of Historic Places; numerous other businesses have sprung up around this area over time including restaurants, medical offices/clinics/spa’s etc.; today there are more than 20 businesses operating within very close proximity to each other making it easy for shoppers to get what they need whether shopping inside or outside the local stores... In 1847 William Gibson established Gibson & Perkins Grain Merchants which became one of America's largest flour merchants serving customers through large warehouses located throughout downtown Cleveland; until its acquisition by Archer Daniels Midland in 1984 grain marketing operations were centralized at One Commerce Plaza until that company relocated all operations there permanently later becoming known as Heublein Foods Incorporated followed by Pabst Brewing Company before being sold again in 1999 to Anheuser Busch InBev NV whereupon brewing operations were moved back into One Commerce Plaza once again becoming Heublein Foods Incorporated prior to its sale yet again in 2006 once again becoming part of SABMiller plc.; currently SABMiller Plc owns Heublein Foods Incorporation along with 15% stake in ImClone Systems LLC which manufactures Clonex technology used primarily within biotechnology industry... On July 2nd 1840 John Willard Horton opened his first store fronted grocery store at corner Main Street And High Street - Horton’s Grocery soon became one of Cuyahoga County’s most popular tourist attractions offering daily tours departing from then location every hour starting at 10am till 3pm Admission free
The Coast Guard has a rich and varied history that can be traced back to the early days of America. The Coast Guard was founded on December 4, 1790 as the United States Revenue Cutter Service. It was originally known as the Treasury Department’s Marine Militia. The Coast Guard became an individual service in 1881 and began operating small boats called Revenue Cutters. In 1915, the Coast Guard purchased its first cruiser, USCGC Polar Star. The Coast Guard also started providing military support to American forces in World War I and World War II. After the war, the Coast Guard transitioned to a civilian organization and began providing services including Search and Rescue, law enforcement, maritime security, environmental protection, public health services, and coastal defense. The Coast Guard is one of only a few US government agencies that operates in every country in which it serves. The service has since been reauthorized several times totaling $38 billion have been spent on various programs designed to protect our coasts and waterways.

Englewood is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, and the county seat of Lucas County. The population was 61,908 at the 2010 census[1] and 83,463 as of 2017[2]. It is located on the southern edge of Cleveland metropolitan area and is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Cleveland Combined Statistical Area. The town site was settled in 1796 by surveyors named Englewood after Captain John Engle who had been lost at sea while hunting for treasure off Cuba.[3] The city was founded on November 12, 1827 when a tract of land adjoining that owned by James Kapp (the brother-in-law of then-President George Washington) were sold to "John Prentice" and others for $1,000. The settlement grew rapidly due to its location between two major railroads – the Great Lakes Railway and the Western Reserve Canal – as well as easy access to natural resources such as timber and water. In 1836, some investors bought out John Prentice's partners and formed an association called "The townsite committee." This group began work soliciting donations for a public works project to improve transportation access to the city: a bridge over Sandusky River, streetcars, etc. After several years of efforts, including sending letters appealing for money from all around Ohio,[4] enough money had been raised to begin construction in 1841[5]. The first road paved with pebbles was built just east of present day First Baptist Church; it connected what are now Clinton Avenue (northwest corner) and Euclid Avenue (southwest corner). In 1865 Union College students built an artillery battery on top of Old Post Road near today's State Street Schoolhouse; this fortification served during both world wars until it was destroyed by fire in 1945. In 1892 Englewood became onevote Republican City Limits within boundaries established by new state law following general election results which showed Democratic majorities in both houses statewide.[6] On February 9th 1898 Mayor Haggerty approved plans submitted by Boardman & Sons architectural firms for what would become one of America's first municipally run electric utilities – Cleveland Electric Railway Company Ltd.,later known as Public Utilities Commission #8 – with assets valued at $10 million at its peak.[7][8][9][10][11] With incorporation came growth opportunities including annexation by neighboring cities such as Cleveland Heights (1902), Parkland Heights (1907), Royal Oak (1921), Wedgefield Heights (1925), Highland Hills(1928), Norwalk(1930) and Strongsville( 1939).[12][13][14]: As early as 1901 residents were discussing annexation into other surrounding municipalities but no decisions were made until 1907 when trustees voted unanimously in favor joiningAUXNORWALK with strongsville
Englewood was founded in 1795 by Jacob Engle and his wife, Rachel. The town prospered due to its location on the Great White River and its connections to a number of businesses, including fur traders and lumber companies. In 1838, Englewood became the seat of Hamilton County. It remained an important community until the early 20th century when population growth caused problems with space limitations, leading to the decline of the town. Today, Englewood is a small, residential community located in southwestern Ohio.
