The Elyria Coast Guard gift history began in 1925. That year, the Elyria Volunteer Fire Department established a Gift Shop to sell gifts to members of the Coast Guard. In 1950, the Coast Guard Auxiliary was formed and the gift shop became an auxiliary organization within the Coast Guard. In 1988, Elyria Municipal Airport opened and it was decided that the Coast Guard Auxiliary would provide gift baskets for passengers when they landed at airport. This continued until 2001 when airport security increased their patrols and no longer allowed gift baskets from airport employees. Since then, all communication between airport staff and member of the Coast Guard has been through email or voice mail. Today, The Elyria Coast Guard Auxiliary still provides gift baskets for passengers upon landing at our airport, but we also offer online ordering which can be found under “Gift History” on this website. Elyria is a city in the Tuscarawas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 20,378 at the 2010 census. Elyria is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Elyria is bordered by Dayton to the east, Cuyahoga Falls to the north and west, and Price Hill to the south. The Toledo-Middletown Expressway forms its eastern border and Interstate 71 bisects it from northwest to southeast. The first Europeans to visit what is now Elyria were French fur traders in 1798. George Washington's army journeyed through central Ohio on their way from Williamsburg, Virginia to Fort Pitt in 1799 during his campaign against France. Jesuit Father Jacques Marquette explored these parts of central Ohio in 1799-1800 while exploring for new routes into Canada via Lake Erie and downriver to Detroit. In 1802 James Kapp founded Kapp & Company mercantile paper mill at what is now Elyria; this became one of America's leading paper mills until it closed in 1902. Elyria was platted as a town on May 10, 1827 by commissioners John Beauregard (1812-1875) and Solomon Schaffer (1814-1890). The town was named after General George Washington's father who had fought under him during the American Revolutionary War. On December 1, 1853 Elyria incorporated as a village due largely to popular demand following an extended drought that year which caused crop failures throughout most of Ohio including much of southeastern Indiana where Elva was located; however only a few residents attended incorporation ceremonies as many residents felt they would not have had anything much done in their small town with no business opportunities other than attending incorporation meetings In 1854–55 Drury County completed construction of A&A Railroad between Cleveland and Lawrenceburg which connected with several other railroads near present day Elyria along route number 2C – making it possible for farmers living near railroad tracks access to marketable goods both before and after harvest season without having their crops destroyed by animals or floods striking during transport On October 15, 1861 Ulysses S Grant visited Clay Township when he was circuit judge for Muskingum County The first courthouse here was built in 1865 on Main Street opposite current day Trumpington Avenue – two years after Elyria incorporated as a village . The building burned down on May 14th 1865 but was rebuilt within four months using local lumber . A plaque commemorating this event can be found at 6102 Market St #2208 . A second courthouse opened here on November 4th 1865 which served until 1907 when the building burned again – this time costing $10,000 dollars to rebuild One account has it that arsonists set fire to both buildings but there are no any concrete evidence either way An interesting footnote about this particular building is that according “Clay Township: Its History” by Jerald Hinkle published 1978 ISBN 0897694191

Elyria, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 6,898 as of the 2010 census. Elyria is located in Lucas County at (41.712583, -81.566667). The unincorporated community of Norton lies to the south-southwest in Lorain County and is also included in the Elyria CDP. The first European settlers arrived in 1813 when John Fenton founded a trading post on the Scioto River near present-day Elyria. By 1830, there were ninety families living here and three churches had been built by then; onemanuel Baptist Church (founded 1831), First Congregational Church (1832), and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church (established 1848). In 1830–33, Elijah Hicks established an agricultural colony west of Elyria on what is now Trumbull Township; this was followed by other pioneers such as George Stephenson and his brother James who settled along the Scioto River Valley between 1835 and 1840; these settlers built up what became known as Cleveland Township during that time period. In 1846, following Indian removal policies enacted by President Andrew Johnson, all Native Americans within two miles of any white settlement were ordered to leave their homes or be forcibly removed without any form of compensation or trial process; this event is generally considered to be one of the most traumatizing moments in American history because it caused many natives to leave their ancestral land forever and live among whites instead. As a result of these events, over 100 families left Elyria for various reasons between 1846 and 1860 alone – some moving due to religious differences while others migrated because they could not find work elsewhere after being forced off their lands. Although much has changed since those days including increased development around Elyria due to changes brought about by Interstate Highway 95A which hugs both sides of the river valley like a lion’s mouth with access from all directions making life easier for everyone involved since it replaced prior dirt roads,[1] much remains unchanged about this small town located just upstream from Cleveland on State Route 422 which still has its own unique culture that has made it one of America’s favorite tourist destinations for locals and visitors alike for over 160 years!

The City of Elyria experienced rapid growth from its incorporation until the late 1800s when it began to decline due to factors such as economic stagnation and increased competition from other cities in the region.
