Eastlake is a town in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,571 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Eastlake was Nicholas Hultgren in 1813. He and his family built a log cabin on the east side of what is now Main Street. The first post office in Eastlake was established in 1816 and named New Bridge after Nicholas's bridge over the Muskingum River. In 1824, John Atherton purchased 1/2 acre (0.18 km²) of land from James Condon for $5 per acre (1 hectare). This property became known as Atherton's Corner where many early businesses were located including groceries, saddles, saddles and other horse equipment dealers and corsetmakers. In 1830, Samuel Morse constructed a home on this site which he called Morse Manor until it burned down in 1892. A new store was built on Main Street between First Avenue and Maple Street in 1870 by Wm Eller & Bros.. This store traded items such as flour, bacon, eggs and meat to local farmers until it closed around 1912 when wire services replaced mail delivery as an important service hereabouts. Many residents remember that "Eller's" store because they could go there without fear of being robbed or worse since robberies were common then among small town citizens who had no protection other than their own families or themselves against crime outside their immediate area This store remained open until 1963 when it closed its doors permanently due to lack of business competition from larger stores within miles radius like Kroger or Walmart which opened up shop nearby while also providing more affordable prices for goods with bigger discounts available online or at word-of-mouth recommendations only For many years after Eller's closure there wasn't much else to do except drive out into neighboring towns like Cleveland Heights for shopping at large department stores such as Sears or JCPenney whereas back thenopping yards were one popular form of entertainment found throughout most small towns these days .
