Eastlake is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 12,569 at the 2010 census. It is the namesake of Eastlake High School. The first European to set foot in what is now Eastlake Township was John Lennon on July 25, 1814. He and his brother McCartney were traveling from Liverpool to Cleveland on their way to see the Indians play against the Boston Red Sox when they came across some land that had been bought by Simon Cameron. In 1824, Benjamin Stroud purchased of land at the base of Seneca Lake from Simon Cameron for $2 per acre. This parcel became known as "Stroud's Park". In 1828, George Stephenson laid out a road from Clifton Heights along Seneca Lake to Dublin (now Mentor), connecting with Stroud's Park and making it possible for people to get around without having to go through Cleveland. The town of Eastlake was founded as part of this development. The town was renamed after General David Silliman Caldwell who fought in the Mexican-American War and also served as Deputy Governor of Ohio under President James Kahl during the administration of Andrew Johnson. Caldwell negotiated peace treaties between Mexico and America following the war and donated much of his personal wealth to education in Ohio including land which he donated near Eastlake where he built Eastlake High School in 1909. In 1915, Caldwells donation included an tract northeast of present day Eastlake that formed what is now I-70 exit 219B/C (the ramps leading into I-670). This tract later became known as "Caldwell Place", home to Northside Mall until its closure in 2009. The first post office opened in eastake on December 12, 1896; it remained open until 1913 when it moved south across I-670 into new building located just off US Route 422 north side (east side today). In 1916 Drury constructed a two story frame structure on lot number 2 located east of current day Cedar Road (now Old Erie Rd.). That year Drury organized local school trustees meeting which resulted in establishmentofEastLake Middle School which operated until 1954 when it merged with nearby Northside Schools Incorporated becoming one comprehensive public school system serving all eastern Cuyahoga County residents including eastake

The city was named for their home of Eastlake Hall, which had been built before the Microcosm of Athens Township. During its time as a part of Cincinnati, Eastlake experienced significant growth and development including the construction of several large churches and businesses.
