The air force gift history in Eastlake, Ohio began with the creation of the United States Air Force on September 17, 1947. The mission of the USAF was to provide aerial support for American forces in World War II. The first planes were purchased by the United States Air Forces at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. The first squadron activated at RAF Bentwaters in England on December 1, 1946 and became known as 'The Thunderbolts'. In 1949, Midwest Airlines begins flights to Indian Wells Airport in West Palm Beach, Florida carrying US troops stationed there during World War II. This started a trend of giving military aircraft to aviation companies as part of airforce gifts. From then on, the USAAF gifted numerous aircraft and equipment to various aviation organizations around the world. As time went on, different branches of the USAF received their own Aircraft from that which belonged to other branches or services within the USAF. For example: In 1957-1958Flying Fortress Squadron 2 (the "Fitzsimmons") received two Boeing 727Ls from Northwest Airlines; Squadrons 21st and 22nd Tactical Reconnaissance Group (the "Blue Bombers"), both acquired three Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighters from Lockheed Aircraft Company; and Headquarters Squadron 513 (the "Hercules" - later redesignated Headquarters Squadron 341st Fighter Wing) received a McDonnell Douglas F1B Phantom II jet trainer from McDonnell Aircraft Company. These types of gifts reflect changes and advancements made within each branch of service over time while still honoring those who have served within that particular branch/service throughout wartime and peacetime periods. Today's USAF is composed of more than hundred active duty units across all 50 stateside locations with several thousand reserve members worldwide through AFNORAD commando groups providing an agile global Aircrew capability should needed[5]. The history of the Eastlake Air Force Base gift shop can be traced back to World War II. When the military closed down its bases in Ohio, they moved all of their equipment and stores to Eastlake. The base gift shop continued to operate until it was closed in 1992. The current store opened in 1992, and is located on the east side of Eastlake Boulevard. It is open from 9am to 4pm Monday through Friday, and 9am to 2pm Saturday. The store specializes inArmy/Navy gifts, as well as air force gifts from various branches of service. The store has a wide variety of items, including clothes, books, tools, weapons, vehicles and more. They also have a large selection of military and naval memorabilia for sale.
Eastlake is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, located near the Greater Cleveland area. The population was 27,521 at the 2010 census. Eastlake is considered a town by Ohio law and is not included within the city of Cleveland proper. The first Europeans to visit what is now Eastlake were German Protestants who landed in the region on July 4, 1792 during Queen's voyage under Captain James Cook and charted what are now eastern Michigan and western Ohio as part of their survey of North America. The first permanent resident was Peter Kapp, a Lutheran pastor from Niles, Illinois who founded a small farm there on November 9, 1810. The land that would become Eastlake was surveyed and platted by Samuel Greenough in 1814 as part of his platting of Lucas County. Greenough named it for George Washington Eastland, an American general during the Revolutionary War and one of several commissioners chosen to survey Indian Territory west of the Allegheny Mountains after British General John Forbes laid out those regions in 1784-85 using Spanish maps as guidebooks. Greenough sold most of his holdings in 1828 to John Dennison for $1 million cash plus another $600,000 worth of shares over five years following Dennison's purchase of much older land stretching from Akron to Sandusky Bayou less than two miles east from where he had bought it from Indians in 1800-01 when they still lived among the Shawnee nation near present day Uniontown along Sandusky River which flows into Lake Erie just east of where Eastlake now stands. Dennison had been born into slavery around1756 near Lancaster County but free Scanlon family helped him buy his freedom with their money when he turned twenty-one years old about 1781 while serving as an ensign with General Benedict Arnold's forces at Fort Pittsburgh west Pennsylvanian border against Great Britain during 78 Years' War (the French & Indian War) before captaining USS Constitution during its tour through Chesapeake Bay portings between Philadelphia [then York] Pennsylvania and Annapolis Maryland in May 1794 becoming captain September 3rd year below June 30th year when USS Constitution sailed for Boston [New England]. He served three terms as Mayor/Councilman/ Sheriff (1811-12; 1813; 1830), Town Clerk (1830), director post office services within town limits subject to state regulation until 1850 when post office service became county government responsibility following township boundaries disputes solved by court order or ordinance adopted January 1st 1851: see Township website link above). He then retired to life on estate which he ran until death four years later at age eighty-eight having also served six terms as State Senator (May 6th 1840 - October 14th 1847; February 28th 1861 -March 12th 1865) coroner special assistant United States Patent Officeibrarian since 1861=Governor pro tempore March 8th 1863 - December 2nd 1865). This plat includes 264 acres or about two thirds thereof containing 80 buildings erected mostly early 1800’s bearing date back to prewar period... Ninety percent or more original growth & development took place prior to World War II taking place within walking distance today Of course WW2 destroyed most if not all housing but many shops & businesses survived giving rise today still called "Eastlake" although actually located very much outside City Limits
Air Force One is one of the most iconic and well-known airplanes in the world. It has been seen in movies, on television shows, and even featured in live actionovies. The plane has also been used for various other purposes, such as transporting members of the U.S. military to different parts of the world. The first air force gift was given to the United States Air Force by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on May 5, 1940. The plane was built by Boeing and was named after General George Washington's air expedition that discovered new landmass in 1937. After World War II ended, the United States Air Force began searching for a new replacement for General George Washington's old airplane, the XP-47E Superfortress. This aircraft became known as the "Superman" because it could fly at speeds up to Mach 3 (over 3 times the speed of sound). In 1949, President Harry S Truman gave another air force gift to the USAF when he ordered his personal jet fighter called Lockheed P-38 Lightning into service . The Lockheed P-38 Lightning had many improvements over earlier models like being able to fly at high altitudes without danger from enemy fighters or bombers overhead; this allowed American pilots to take on more difficult tasks in Europe during World War II while risking less damage or death than if they were flying older planes like jets or propeller airplanes which could be shot down easily by Axis Fighters! It wasn't just new planes that were given out though; Presidents Truman also ordered surplus tanks and artillery pieces into service as gifts for America's air forces! This act showed how much America loved its military men and women who fought so hard during World War II! With all these great gifts given out by our presidents during wartime years it can only be guessed what else may have been purchased with those funds? Maybe some new helicopters or planes? There is no way to know for sure but it is safe to assume that there must have been something special bought with those dollars!

Eastlake, Ohio was founded on October 25, 1814 by the Eastlake Company of Cleveland. The company was created to raise money for the construction of a new military academy at West Point. At its peak, the Eastlake Company had 11 employees and $2 million in assets. The town rapidly grew due to its location on Lake Erie and its access to transportation and trade routes. In 1838, Eastlake became a part of the newly formed city of Cleveland. Over time, Eastlake became known as one of Cleveland's most prosperous neighborhoods. During World War II, many businesses in Eastlake closed their doors because they were unable to participate in the war effort. However, many residents remained supportive of the war efforts and helped contribute goods and services to various organizations such as the American Red Cross. In 1945, Mayor John Cranley announced that all businesses within east of Euclid Street must close by September 30th due to wartime rationing. In 1951 Franklin D Roosevelt died and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Cleveland Heights with his wife Eleanor Roosevelt. After Franklin D Roosevelt's death, many people began memorializing him in east Cleveland through programs like those found at rest stops along I-80 (the " FDR Freeway"). Many stores continue these programs today including Shoprite/Great Lakeside Mall which opened in 1995 – originally occupied by JCPenney
