Dublin, Ohio is home to one of the most vibrant coffee scenes in the United States. The city’s rich history with coffee has led to a strong presence in the industry and continues to this day. Homegrown roasters such as Blue Bottle Coffee and Four Barrel Coffee have helped set Dublin apart from other major cities in terms of coffee culture. Coffee has been a part of Dublin’s culture for centuries, first being sourced from lower-quality beans grown in rural areas. As demand for quality coffee increased, so too did the prices associated with purchasing it. This led to various businesses setting up shop in downtown Dublin throughout the 1800s and 1900s, resulting in some of the earliest cafes being established here. In 1912, The Globe published an article entitled “The Origin of Irish Roasts” which detailed how coffee had become popular among British soldiers stationed in Ireland. At that time, coffeepots were not common and only served hot chocolate or tea until more recent times. From there, Dublin began importing different types of beans from all over Europe for their own roasting operation known as The Bean Shop. This business later became known as Derry & Tyrone Coffee Company before moving its operations to new premises on Commissioners Street in 1916. From here, they operated until World War II when they relocated again – this time to Bellefontaine Road where they continued roasted beans until their closure in 1984). Throughout these years, Dublin was also home to several key roasters including Three Park Coffee (1902-1998), RTE Cafeteria (1948-1967), Mountjoy Cafeteria (1968-1971) and Abbey Tavern Coffee Co Ltd (1973-1977). These businesses helped contribute to what would come to be known as “the Dublin espresso scene” during this time period. In addition, many famous brands operating at similar levels within the industry such as Blue Bottle Coffee and Four Barrel Coffee have originated from or located themselves within Dublin specifically: Blue Bottle Café opened its doors on College Quay just north of Trinity College around 2002 while Four Barrel Café is located near O’Connell Street close to Grafton Street Station.)

Dublin is located on State Route 6 south of Dayton and north of Springfield. It has a total area of 21 square miles and its ZIP code is 43104. The town was founded in 1811 as a post office settlement by John Roberts and his brother James Roberts. The name derived from their home in County Clare, Ireland. In 1837, it became an incorporated village under the name Dublin City. On November 3, 1907, it became one of two towns to merge with neighboring Springboro to form Dayton Village Township to become one municipality with a combined population of 11,301 people. On December 2nd, 1959, due to annexation by Springfield Township; however;on January 1st 1960 Dublin Village Township reverted back to its original boundaries having no effect other than reverting back to its unincorporated status as per township laws that applied prior thereto (i.e., while still within DaytonVillageTribune Borough).
