Dublin, Ohio is a town in the southwestern corner of Ohio, United States. The population was 7,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron-Canton-Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Dublin was George Washington and his family who lived on what is now North Main Street. Washington had two children with his first wife Martha: George Washington Jr., also born in Dublin, and Martha Washington (née Key) from a previous marriage to John Adams. The Washingtons were among the earliest settlers in what would become Dayton Township, which included present day Dublin as well as portions of Trumbull County and Guernsey County. The first school in Dublin was founded by Reverend John Whitehead on May 12, 1814. That same year President James Ketchum approved the plat for land that would later become downtown Dublin with a four-story log building designed by Solomon Thomas (the builder of Trinity Church). On October 6, 1815, Reverend Whitehead's school moved to its current location on Elm Street between West High School and Stoney Creek Presbyterian Church after becoming too large for Mrs. Whitehead's home on Delaware Avenue near Market Square. In 1816 Revs Whitehead and David Rankin built an addition to their school that became known as "Derry Hall" after Derry (now Donegal) in Ireland where they both originated from. In 1870–71 Drs Rankin and Hinton bought land adjoining their original school site from Mr Elisha Lathrop for $2,000; this area still includes parts of today’s downtown core including State Street (formerly Elm), West High School District #4 Campus & much of State Street NE between Bellefontaine Road & I-75 motorway interchange are also part ofDrRankinHintonSchoolsite today.. In 1893 Dr Rankin donated land comprising most or all of Southeast Side Extension which runs east/west along 3rd Ward boundary line past present day University Circle Business Park off I-275 exit ramp southbound then turns west to continue past University Circle Business Park into 4th Ward then turns north back into 3rd Ward again before terminating at US 27 exit ramp westbound just south of Bellefontaine Road currently used by University Circle Business Park bounded by I-75 & US 27 exit ramps north & southbound
