In 1828, Dublin became part of the newly created United States of America and adopted its current name. The early history of Dublin is intertwined with that of its Native American neighbors to the south and west. In 1792, a group of British-born Scottish immigrants settled in what is now Dubuque, Iowa Territory; their land east of I-80 became known as Scotsboro Township (now Waterloo). By 1800, there were more than 50 people living hereabouts – many Huguenot refugees from France who had fled during the French Revolution (1789-1804). One such refugee, Pierre L’Enfant (1763-1848), designed and supervised Chicago’s first municipal grid system – one that still exists today! As American forces invaded Canada during World War II (1939-1945), many Irish citizens chose to patriotically serve our country rather than fight against us; this included some who lived near Ottawa | Ontario | Canada | where they worked on munitions plants manufacturing war materiel for our allies! However, most residents hereabouts refused to leave their homes – even when offered refuge by US occupation forces! On October 15th 1946 local voters passed an ordinance making Dubuque an incorporated city within 2 years! In 1801, Dublin, Ohio was founded as a small town on the Scioto River by Irish immigrants. The town grew rapidly and by 1810 had a population of over 100 people. In 1812, the town was renamed Greenville after Colonel James Green who donated land to make the town. In 1814, Dublin became an incorporated city and in 1828 it became the capital of Ohio. The city experienced rapid growth and development during its early years and by 1830 had a population of over 1,000 people. On July 4th, 1830, Dublin was burned down by members of the provisional government in what is known as the Fire of 1800. The fire destroyed most of the city and left many buildings including City Hall and Trinity Church standing. By 1840, however, Dublin's popularity had declined due to prohibition policies which caused many jobs to disappear and poverty to increase among its citizens. The city also lost its status as capital due to this decline. However, it regained its former importance in 1870 when Ohio united with other states under the new United States Constitution.
