The history of the United States Air Force (USAF) gift to Dublin, Ohio begins with General Curtis LeMay's arrival in late 1945. The USAF officer who would lead the airlift campaign in Europe during World War II was assigned to Dayton, Ohio as deputy commander for strategic bombardment. LeMay believed that munitions dumps located near Dayton were being used by the Germans for storage and production of weapons of mass destruction, so he ordered his subordinates to bomb these sites. In early 1946, General Curtis LeMay directed Major General James H. Gavin to take command of tactical air forces in NATO. Gavin had a vision forairpower that called for aircraft carriers and fighter squadrons stationed at bases all over Europe to provide constant global coverage. In response, the City of Dayton formed the Air Defense Committee (ADC) under Mayor John Fenton to coordinate military and civilian resources needed to protect southeastern Ohio from future attacks by German bombers and missiles. The committee's first task was to assess Lahr Field – then an open-air airfield located just outside of Dayton – as a potential site for USAF installation. The RAF offered land adjacent to both Laughlin Field and McCoy Army Airfield on which would be built one hundred fighter planes and two bomber squadrons; however, the city refused any concessions until it received assurances that American troops would never leave their homes or use these fields against American citizens. On December 12th, 1946, after months of negotiation between the ADC and representatives from the USAAF,[1] President Harry S Truman announced plans for 4 groups of A-24 Liberators[2] destinedfor Dublin; each group would consist of 42 airplanes! It is interesting to note that only three years earlier there had been no United States presence in Ireland! The gift was formalized on January 17th 1947 when Lieutenant Colonel Archibald MacMahon presented a check made out "To THE CITY OF DYNNEZON FOR THE PRESENT RELEASE OF GENERAL CURTIS LEAMIY"

Dublin, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Holmes County. The population was estimated to be 105,827 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati–Middletown–Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area and is located within Greater Cincinnati metropolitan area. The city proper has a total area of 26 square miles (68 km2), making it one of the smallest cities in Ohio. The first permanent European settlers arrived in what is now Dublin around 1800; they were led by Colonel Nicholas Irvine who purchased land from the Ottawa people near present-day Newport on the Delaware River. In 1803, General Anthony Wayne founded Dearborn County with land that included modern day Dublin on his victory at Fallen Timbers against Native Americans under Chief Tecumseh. In 1814, Englishman George Stephenson built a turnpike overland from Liverpool to Youngstown which became known as Stephenson's Turnpike and helped spur development in central Ohio including Dublin along with other towns such as Middletown and Dayton. In 1825, James Kapp donated land to form Kapp Park which served as a home for many notable citizens including lawyer Daniel Webster and politician Grover Cleveland. During World War II, Irish American laborers helping build munitions plants in America worked their way up through the ranks until they reached top management roles such as those held by Francis Gary Powers during his historic Mercury mission into space on July 15th, 1969 – also known as "the day after Christmas" – when he was shot down over Russia by Soviet Union Air Force aircraft while orbiting Earth at an altitude of 375 miles (500 km). This event made Ireland international headlines worldwide and helped define both its economy and culture for generations to come; today nearly all Irish immigrants living in America know at least one word associated with Ireland:Irish! One thing that hasn't changed much since then is how hardworking these immigrants have been – even now many jobs still go unfilled because there are not enough Irish Americans available to fill them! Dublin, Ohio is a small town in the Cincinnati metropolitan area, located about 20 miles west of downtown Cincinnati on I-65. The population was 7,708 at the 2010 census. The name Dublin comes from the Irish word "Dún Laoghaire" meaning "the fort of Laoghaire". The first settlement in what is now Dublin was made by Methodists in 1803. In 1828, John Quincy Adams built a home there and called it Grafton House. In 1859, General Ulysses S. Grant moved his headquarters to Dublin after his victory over Andrew Johnson at Pea Ridge. He and his wife lived at Grafton House for three years before moving to their present home on Elm Street near Walnut Street in 1870. A new post office was opened in 1865 and named Dublin after George Washington Carver who donated land for the village. The first store was built in 1870 and later became known as the Farmers' Merchants Bank. From 1880 until 1925, it served as the seat of government for Hamilton County although that position was hereafter transferred to Covington, Kentucky until 1965 when it again passed through hands before becoming an unincorporated community within Hamilton County with its own governing body - the Dublin Township Board of Commissioners - effective January 1st 1997 In 1916 (the year World War I began), many men from Dublín enlisted or were drafted into service during World War I; some returned home while others took up arms against Austria-Hungary which had become an ally of Germany following its war with Russia). Consequently much activity took place within and around Grafton House throughout 1916 as people gathered to grieve or make plans for what lay ahead. Many photographs taken during this time show residents gatherings around Grafton House which has been said to be one of the most imposing structures in town because of its size and power symbolic thereof On November 11th 1916 two German mercenaries were killed by members of Irish Volunteers inside Grafton House after robbing a grocery store just outside town limits; this event is often cited as triggering Ireland's entrance into World War I On December 5th 1918 local man James Doherty shot & killed two Germans who had broken into his house on Elm Street just east of Broadway; Doherty saw them coming so decided to take action instead of running away

In 1925, Dublin became a City of Industry; this designation marked Dublin's first time being recognized as an economic center within Ohio. During World War II, Dublin was one of several American cities that offered housing and services to Allied troops stationed inOhio. After the war, Dublin experienced increased development as a result of its status as a major commercial center in Northeast Ohio. In 1984, after years of growth, Dublin became an official municipality with full municipal powers.
