The Dover, Ohio Coast Guard Station was established on November 15, 1892. The station was originally called the Depot and then changed to its present name in 1912. The station is a part of the National Coast Guard and is responsible for providing security along the Ohio River from Kentucky to Maryland. The station also provides services to area businesses and residents. The Coast Guard Station has a rich history that goes back to 1892 when it was established as the Depot. It served as an important tool for keeping people and goods safe during times of war or natural disasters such as hurricanes or floodings. In 1912, the depot became known as the Coast Guard Station when it was moved from its original location on Portsmouth Road in Dover to its current location on State Route 422 at US-21/US-13 intersection. Dover, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio that is situated on the eastern bank of the Muskingum River. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. Dover is part of the Troy–Elyria, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Dover were farmers and their families who arrived from Pennsylvania in 1795. They built log homes around a mill which they operated until 1802 when they moved to what is now downtown Dover and started a gristmill which continue to produce flour and other agricultural products until 1865 when it became an ice cream parlor and then an oil refinery before being purchased by Kraft Foods in 1984. The mill has been closed since 1990 but still operates as a historical museum open to the public. Dover was organized as a township on March 15, 1855, from land grants given by President James K. Polk to five southeastern Ohio pioneers who had journeyed through Canada during his American Civil War Expedition: George Sibley, John Witherspoon, Nathan Holeman, Josiah Henson, and David Fugate Sr.. On December 16 of that year (1856), voters approved incorporation into the new county of Muskingum due to its location on both sides of the river between Tiffin (to the east) and Youngstown (to the west). It was not until 1872 that bridges were built over both rivers so that traffic could be diverted onto Delaware Avenue for transportation into Superior which led directly to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where warships were repaired during World War II. By 1945 there were only 10 residents living in Dover while 905 people worked at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard; however this number dropped to 715 by 1959 when Ford Motor Company began manufacturing cars here at nearby Youngstown-Warren Engine Plant #2 which increased production at Plymouth Township's Watervliet Arsenal making it difficult for shipbuilders located downstream to keep up with demand so Dover's status changed from township to borough within two years becoming one of Muskingum County's most populous towns with over 12 thousand residents by 1974 even though less than 1/3rd of all jobs here are currently related to defense spending In recent years there has been renewed interest in revive downtown Dover as retail development along Delaware Avenue has managed to lure back some long-term resident businesses while also developing housing near Interstate 270 for workers commuting into Greater Cleveland or Akron; thus creating more opportunities for job growth outside of Defense contracting alone despite efforts by local elected officials not just towards reviving Downtown but also developing strategies towards attracting high-paying jobs away from Kent County altogether . However much progress has been made towards restoring historic aspects such as restored brick quoins along Delaware Ave while gaps remain in comprehensive plans regarding how bestTo redevelop Downtown without destroying important community assets As one dominant force behind economic development within Muskingum County overall after decades seeming poised for retirement – -the city OF Toledo continues trying hard TO BUSINESS OWNERSHIP & CONSTRUCTION! On September 26th last year – -a brand spanking new building called “The Antioch” opened its doors inside Oneonta Township Hall having cost taxpayers $225K+! This structure serves as home office & meeting hall services for approximately 120 employees working FOR THE CITY OF TOLEDO! A building like this can NEVER come cheaply EVER! BUT guess what? IT WAS BUILT BY OUR HEROES IN MUSKINGUM COUNTY BECAUSE WE WANT TO MAKE OUR COMMUNITY MORE ENTERTAINING FOR ALL…AND THAT INCLUDES YOU GUYS FROM TOLEDO!

The area now known as Dover experienced heavy fighting during World War II when it was part of Nazi Germany. On April 15, 1945, Japanese forces attacked American forces positions at Pearl Harbor resulting in dozens of deaths among American servicemen including Rear Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto who ordered his ships to torpedoe USS Indianapolis Instead which caused over 50% loss for America
