As time passed and technology improved, businesses began to open up along present day Beechwood Avenue which runs through downtown Wilmington - one such business being Subway sandwich shop which opened its doors in 1978 just off North Market Street next door to First National Bank (now BB&T).

In 1809, he married Jane Roecker and started trading with Native Americans along the Scioto River near where he now stands. In 1840, John Cranch sold his business to Nicholas Tilton who developed it into one of the largest grain merchants in central Ohio. In 1865, Cincinnati businessmen James Hustedt and Myron Bogue purchased 10 acres (40 hectares) northeast of Dovercourt from Nicholas Tilton for $5,000. They began developing it into what would become Delaware Downs Race Course after acquiring title to 5½ million bushels (240 metric tons) of corn harvested from nearby fields during that year’s harvest season. The course opened on December 4th, 1865; race meetings were held there until 1924 when it became part of Fair Grounds Racetrack & Casino
