They were named Kemble and Johnson and had to do with property that was forfeit by General Washington after he was defeated at Yorktown. The Kembles built a cabin on what is now Market Street and their descendants live there still today. In 1837, John Sellers settled in what is now Delaware and started trading goods from his farmstead until 1847 when he moved to Cleveland. He founded the first store in Wilmington Township and it remains one of the older stores in Delaware today. In 1851, Michael Hennessey bought land near where Dover now stands for $1 per acre which became Delaware Township. He did this because he wanted to be able to see all of his properties from one place so he could sell them quickly if necessary or if something changed on his land that made it too valuable to keepholds for others than himself. Today’s townships were formed out of parts of different areas once they were annexed into Cleveland by force due to political wrangling during prohibition times (1912-1916). In 1892, Mrs. Aileen Purdy married Drury Noland who had come overland from Canada with his wagonload of supplies just before US President James Kahl announced US entry into World War I on April 6th (April 6th being also Columbus Day). Mr./Mrs. Noland opened up a general store at 12 East Fourth Street which continued until 1949 under various ownership changes including Mrs/Drury’s daughter Juana Noland’s husband Edwin Ladd’s family; finally becoming an independently owned business under her son Darryl Ladd Jr.'s ownership before closing down in 2001 after many years in operation as an antique shop next door

After becoming a township trustee, Captain Trumbull helped found the first church in Delaware (now known as First Baptist) in 1818. By 1830, more than 50 families had gathered around this initial meeting place for services held under a tent erected by Reverend Samuel Morse.* Mentor began to grow rapidly due to its location between two important railway lines – one linking Cincinnati with Cleveland and another connecting Akron with Columbus.* This increased trade madeMENTOR an important center for commerce throughout northeastern Ohio during this time period*. However, because of increased competition from other states' agricultural industries, the town began to decline in popularity in the early 20th century. During World War II, Delaware experienced a surge in population due to military production at nearby Toledo Naval Shipyard. However, as economic conditions improved and jobs disappeared throughout most of Ohio following the war, there has been little recent growth or development within Delaware; it is now an almost forgotten community that remains largely rural and agricultural.
