In the year 1812, there were only 8 regiments of infantry in the United StatesArmy. The troops at this time were divided into “battalions” of ten companies each, commanded by a lieutenant colonel. These battalions formed up on parade days and participated in drills and maneuvers as part of the country’s militia. On November 5, 1812, Delaware County was added to the Union Army under General George Washington. This action marked an important change for Delaware because it had been apportioned to Kentucky in 1790. With this addition, Delaware became one of four counties in Ohio that were organized into a military government on December 12th, 1812 (the others being Butler County, Sandusky County and Stark County). The first known deployment of troops from Delaware County took place on March 3rd, 1813 when two companies from the 2nd Regiment Infantry responded to a call for help from Colonel John Wyeth at Fort Mifflin near Philadelphia. The regiment arrived just in time to participate in the Battle of Gettysburg which ended with a decisive victory for the Confederate forces over Federal forces under General Ulysses S. Grant. In 1861 Ohio’s statehood was granted and within days its new state militia was activated and ordered to march into Cincinnati to join General Ulysses S. Grant’s army besieging that city during the Civil War. On April 11th these men turned back after reaching Cincinnati but joined up with other units loyal to Ohio Govt., Banks advance upon Dayton where they remained until relieved by Union forces on May 15th after driving all Confederate threats out of central Ohio including Dayton itself!

Delaware, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat for Amherst County. It is located on the southern border of Amherst County, about 20 miles east of Columbus, and is bordered by Mifflin County to the north, Fairfield County to the west and Medina County to the south. As of 2010, it had a population of 476. Delaware began as a part of Washington Township in Lawrence County on November 3, 1792 when George Washington was inaugurated as President of the United States. The first settler in Delaware was Samuel Allison who established a cabin on what is now Greenlawn Drive in 1802. In 1805 David Dixon founded Delaware Village which became an important commercial center during the early 1800s due to its location at one of several crossings onthe Scioto River that linked Toledo with Philadelphia and Cincinnati. On May 25, 1812 Delaware was admitted into Union as part of Trumbull Township along with neighboring Harrisonburg and Northumberland Counties; this made it one of only two towns in Ohio to be ceded from other states (the other being Cincinnati). The first store opened in Delaware on October 1, 1815 by James Wills who named his business "The Binford Store." By 1830 there were ten stores operating throughout the town including three restaurants/hotels; among these businesses were Copley's grocery store (founded in 1830 by Amos Doolittle), Pritchard’s hardware store (founded 1865) and Auren’s restaurant (opened 1872 by John Auren). The commercial success led to development around Delaware shopping areas such as Market Street between Cedar Street and High Street while also lessening travel time between townspeople living near each other through railroads like Pennsylvania Railroad Line #2 serving Dovercourt Road intersection until 1912 when it became US-13 connecting Wilmington with Cleveland via Summit Avenue; this allowed residents from Dovercourt Road area near Newark Airport access to jobs opportunities within walking or driving distance while preventing traffic congestion caused by weekly checkouts at local factories across Summit Avenue corridor used for storage purposes only during non-peak hours leading up until World War II when truckloads full of finished goods transported daily from Dayton warehouses down Summit Avenue reached central Columbus before being unloaded onto I-70 for shipment back home over I-75
