Defiance is a town in Crawford County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati–Middletown–Wilmington, OH-KY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was platted in 1825 and named for Colonel John Defiance, a Revolutionary War veteran and member of the First Regiment of Artillery. The first post office opened in 1830. According to the US Census Bureau, Defiance has a total area of , all land. In 1870, two men by the name of Fenton bought 1/2 mile (3 km) east of town on what is now north side Richards Road from Jno. Hoadley for $1 per acre (0.50 ha). They erected an early frame house and soon began selling land to settlers for farming and development as a small village with churches, stores and residences. In 1875 they organized as the Village Trustees which controlled all aspects of life within their limits until 1925 when it became an incorporated town with its own government The present day Town Hall building was built in 1902 by Eben Davenport who also donated land for the erection of this structure The brick building was completed without public funds according to plans provided by Mr. Davenport himself on one summer day while he lay sunbathing on his property just outside town limits

But Defiance also experienced some tough times during the 1800s due to increasing population density along with an increase in crime rates. For example, there were several outbreaks of smallpox throughout the 1800s which left many residents dead or disabled. However, whileDefiance faced challenges during its early years, it ultimately emerged as one of America's most prosperous cities -thanks in large part to its thriving economy and strong community spirit.
